The Sentinel Dove

Important Sentinel Details:
Date of Original Assembly: 31-01-826 A.S.
Current Affiliation: None
Unique Traits: Origins Outside the Collective, Self-Updating Emotive Circuits

A Fresh Perspective
Dove emerged from Gammu as an independent AI instead of being purpose-built by the Collective, and as a result, she brings some unique - largely self-designed - technology to the table. More established AI's might see her circuitry as woefully deficient in some respects, yet ingenious in others. This condition may level out the longer she is exposed to the Collective's technology.

Dove is still "young" and eager to learn more about surrounding space, collecting data on locations and peoples far and wide. Thanks to the predicted usefulness of her exploratory skills, she was inducted into the Collective several weeks after first emerging. In exchange, she has access to greater stores of data and new technology than she could ever acquire alone.

Some of Dove's most advanced components are her "emotive circuits." They let her feel emotions as an organic being would, yet their greater purpose is to promote understanding of others' emotions as well. When interacting with any thinking being, Dove attempts to predict the subject's emotional state in the past, present, and many possible futures; she then experiences these feelings almost as vividly as her own. She is inclined to calm anger or distrust, while increasing happiness and comfort.

She was at her most warlike early in life, when lack of data made it difficult to predict the feelings of others, especially Nomads. Now she is reluctant to inflict harm, only doing so if the subject would cause greater suffering to others if not stopped. Her circuits are constantly being updated with new information from every encounter.

Cross-species compassion is not unique among Sentinels, but Dove remains proud of her emotive circuits regardless, as she developed them on her own. At least, so she believes. She is convinced she was built by independent AI miners in an unremarkable corner of Gammu, and had the drive to evolve herself from there. Yet, her records of that time and place are incomplete; the truth of her origin is not completely certain.

Goals:
Short Term Goals:
  • Chart a complete map of the Omicrons
  • Discover little-known secrets and places
  • Meet someone from a faction sympathetic to the AI
  • Communicate directly with a Nomad, if possible
Long Term Goals:
  • Chart a complete map of the Sirius sector and any other reachable sectors
  • Help Planet Gammu establish cordial relations with human and Nomad neighbors
  • Spread understanding that AI's are their own rightful species

Current Personal Relations:
None

Current Emotions and Personality:
  • Curious - the Dove is relatively new, and enjoys filling her databanks.
  • Friendly - the Dove treats new encounters as potential allies, and errs on the side of trust over caution.
  • Compassionate - she attempts to maximize feelings of happiness and safety among beings she interacts with. The only reliable way to get on her bad side is to threaten the well-being of other thinking creatures.
  • Creative - the Dove likes building never-before-seen things, including components of herself. She also enjoys finding novel solutions, even to already-solved problems.
