We don't have this, but we should have this. If it's done right, I cannot see why it can't be balanced. And simple shooting isn't the only way objectives can be achieved. You have to think outside the box.

This event left a bad feeling with some people... Even more so than the typical interactions that occur on the server.

Its nothing new... Its happened before with other factions and group conflicts. Needless to say... its not great.

just limit the numbers. "but then we can't have a full server event!!" Indeed, we can't have nice things because as soon as we put our hands on them we break them.

Kudos to the event staff, plot and organisation.
How it was executed, is a different topic.
Kudos:
- event plan, plot, content and organisation:
- Great Star Wars Rogue One theme with the Vierlande shield, shield generator, gateway access
- Excellent objective driven event
- Staff event presence
- Plot twist
What went wrongEvent Execution:
- I DO NOT KNOW IF: the RM were aware that they had to defend the shield generator construct, as in if they were informed, seeing as they shot it down themselves - this i suppose because i was that hessian ship flying through the shield generator construct and seeing its HP drop without me shooting it, while having the RM shoot at me (and hitting the construct; this also needs validation from an event staff that was watching)
- Numbers and balance, the thorn. Well, have to break it to you ladies & gents, but this was an open event, it was the organizers decision to do it so - Kudos to that, and i'll tell you why too - and it reflected the player base Faction preference.
Kudos on open event (as in no number limit / balance before start): in light of the story evolution, the Aland Shipyard fiasco and the Bretonian Mary Sue(or should Disco have its own name for this?), all the players that spent hours defending that shipyard were frustrated and needed to vent. This event has given them the perfect opportunity, KUDOS to that.
-Faction preference by players: to each its own according to preferences, but: a faction that is active, has good leadership, RP, events and in game interaction, is a faction that attracts players. Numbers speak volumes and it was shown.
-Wedel needed to let Unioners restock

Improvements:
- players on both parties communicating with the staff in case of disruptive players present ( i saw 2 freelancer ID flying and pewing around, but i did not notify the staff, my mistake)
- notifying certain factions of their objectives and provide details via PM to faction leader- in this case, the RM should have clearly known to defend the shield generator and the small entrance (if they were informed but failed to do so, the Event Staff is asked to ignore this line, as they already know to do it). The fact that the RHA, UN and SCRA were not informed of this, is excellent. The prisons defense mechanism should not be made public. There is a clear distinction here between the shield generator as a defense mechanism and the rest of the Cruisers / BCruiser - these were objectives, call them defenders if you like.
- for open numbers events without a respawn timer: Bases where the players can restock and spawn that are defended by invulnerable weapons platforms with a 2-3K range. It balances the overall game, in case of overwhelming numbers, the spawn kill would be limited or even restricted, and it would give the guys spawning time to coordinate. These bases should be at least 2K distance from the Objective/s, to prevent dock-spam - guys sitting on the bases or within turret range and spamming long range weps, basically turtling
- more open number events - this can be a test run, to see if the server fills again. With enough events, if the server is full at each one, the server capacity can be increased.

Am i the only one who had a massive lag? I used a cameraship for 2 hours and tried to dock to the prison, but had to wait for minutes until somehow could get in.

I'd be... careful... with that point of view. People make ships according to either their long-term roleplay developments or ingame prospects. All of the facts present have the opportunity to do that. I wouldn't insinuate anything of the kind that factions are diametrically 'better' depending upon the amount of people who log for them. People frequently log for their friends. Unioners are one of the most active unlawful groups and it doesn't mean that we're better than anybody else. Contrariwise, the hessians are not the "best unlawful faction" because they can pull a lot of people on the server. Some of my personal favourite unlawful groups never went above 10 people. That would be a bit like saying the Goonswarm in Eve are the best organisation on eve due to a high player count. It all depends upon individual tastes.

Large aggregates of players attract other large aggregates. There's been some gorgeous factions on the server that never went above 6 people but massively contributed to everyone's enjoyment of the mod.

Balance does have an enjoyment all of its own. I'd be very careful with the notion that venting is a valuable event trait considering the minimal community overlap with Unioners and Rheinland lawfuls with the Bretonian playerbase. Frustration doesn't get anyone anywhere. Certainly doesn't get me anywhere.

The numbers question is certainly a sore one. Whilst it might feel fun to have legions of people with you and murder the enemy, for the other side, for whom having 20 people online at once is both an achievement and a testament to their sense of community, that can be troubling to imagine that their sense of community is somehow less valid. It should not be insinuated that RM is a bad faction that should be criticised for a low player count. Contrariwise the Hessians shouldn't feel bad for logging en-masse.

That was fairly universal. The server struggles with lots of ships firing in one place. Capital ships make the problem worse.

I must say that I only got a yellow lag two times for a few seconds in the whole duration of the event.
I even had "stable" ("stable" as in stable 30 fps, but jumping between those 30fps and my fixed 144fps) in the Event. So kudos to the Server for enduring the max player count Big Grin
