I doubt a station in the middle of California/Texas/colorado/any other liberty system would be a nice place to have a private training with folks. Interruptions by a local pvp whore is too likely
I see people here railing about guard systems. I have a few questions and comments:
1: Is it all guard systems, or just certain ones? If it's just certain ones, be done with it and name them here. Pussy footing around isn't going to change anything.
2: The comment was made that Guard systems add nothing to rp. My question is, whose RP? It may not add to yours, but it may add to others.
3: By the same line of thinking, you missed railing about getting rid of Conneticut. It has no RP value, yet this was glossed over.
' Wrote:King, give the factions back their 500 million. Let them use it to build up the system.
Umm Some of them paid 1 Billion for their systems. They should also be paid back for the credits they paid out to have had someone do the modeling for them. What, did you expect to get this all for free?
' Wrote:Major detriment to RP?
Guard systems are mostly useless right now, they do nothing, no one really uses them. Infact, over the history of Disco they have had a knack of being a hiding place for player factions not wanting to RP with people. (Thinking of the BS here)
So you want to force people to come out and RP with you? If someone doesn't want to be in your vicinity, I would take that as a hint.
' Wrote:The solar objects in the system, like the stars etc, would not be decided by the faction but by say, the Dev team. The systems would be bare, except for the natural solar objects in place.
Umm, I know the LPI wasn't allowed to add things like that, did we miss the party or something? We couldn't add planets or stars or fields that only we could mine.
' Wrote:I'm sure they don't need a whole system star system for that
A station in a quite place would do just fine.
And who says they don't? I would guess your next suggestion would be to train in Connecticut. Don't. Everyone already knows how that will go... Unless it gets removed for having no RP Value. Yup, have a training event interrupted by the Blue message hunting groups. Nice.
The Guard systems weren't awarded Willy Nilly, at least when the LPI (I use them because it is what I know), we had to meet the guidelines set down by the Admins and Igiss. There was a procedure and we had to follow it.
I guess next you will be lobbying for the removal of Faction right 7. Go look it up.
Also, You all are missing the much larger picture:
This isn't the only server that uses this mod.
Start taking things out of the Mod and telling the other servers "Tough if you don't like it. Add them back in by yourself."
Yeah, I can see the end result of that. "Achievement Unlocked, Mod Killed"
Here's a counter proposal:
Military and Police guard systems get renamed Restricted Zones: There is no RP reason in the world for Non Police or Military to be there. None. If you are found in there and have no business there, you get killed no questions asked. Honestly, do you think anyone in their right mind would smuggle thru a police or Military controlled system?
Factions guard systems other than Military and Police: Call them Contested areas, areas where people in their right minds wouldn't go. Same consequences as above.
So in closing:
If you have heartburn with a certain Guard system, be specific. Don't tar them all with the same brush.
Military and Police will always have areas that the general public aren't allowed.
If People don't want to RP with someone or a group, well, that's their choice.
If the guard systems are taken away, who Repays the factions?

You move 30k up off the plane in any Vanilla system and you will be alone for as long as you want. Guard systems aren't needed for training.
Hack, the amount of money factions paid is irrelevant, that can be given back by those it was paid to (The infinite blackhole/Admins).
I don't want to force people to come RP with me, I can't even play the game infact. My suggestion gives factions somewhere where they can build up and interact with people, if they want to.
A lot of guard systems are custom designed including stars/fields/planets etc. So it seems the LPI did miss the party. Though current guidelines let you shift natural solar objects, or add some things like fields etc. So not entirely sure what you are missing.
In the end, no one loses money.
Guard systems become somewhere that factions can build up logically and maybe have other factions trying to expand into them too.
They can still have their peace to train, though that can be done pretty much anywhere and there are plenty of stations they can train at where no one will try attack them.
I'm not advocating removing guard systems, simply changing them into something more useful or interesting than a house full of furniture..but no life.

Not bad ideas.
The LPI currently has a business arrangement with another faction that allows them to us Illinois as a route for themselves.
Like I said earlier, we were told that certain things were ok and others weren't , so we kept everythng in system as it was.. we added 1 station, a derelict ship, and a supermax prison surronded by a minefield. Everything else was already there.
Zapp also has been discussing some ideas for Illinois that would make it a bit "interesting"........

Sounds good, guard systems are a great platform for factions to bring something interesting to the table, based on their RP.
So while the LPI may be having issues with corruption, they could refer to having a large internal affairs division based on one of their stations in the guard system. Integrating it into the Discoverse really, instead of other systems that are just stapled on.
Londonderry for example, is hopefully going to be an interesting system that people can visit, though can't imagine why they would.
I don't mind certain factions having restricted areas.
What I find odd is that every restricted area automatically comes with a whole star system.
One whole system for every little faction, what's wrong with having half a system?
Can I have safe area for my kids to play? One star system will do. Silly?

Well, if I'm honest about my opinion, I agree.
But you try and tell that to to the population of Liberty.
