In 700 A.S., Interspace Commerce and Ageira technologies developed a revolutionary new cargo scanning and tagging system. In conjunction with advances in neural net technology, the concept of real time interstellar freight, banking and vessel insurance services become a sudden reality. Possessing the raw capital required to launch such a venture in conjunction with their relationship with Ageira, Interspace was in the position to utterly monopolize the interstellar insurance market overnight.

The Interspace Neuralnet Division was originally created to oversee the development and implementation of this new program. Upon wholesale universal adoption, however, the Division was tasked with the supervision of high-end insurance accounts and banking needs in addition to providing nearly all of the company's investigative and shipping services beyond the four colonies and into the border worlds.

With The Division serving as Interspace's arm outside of the houses, inevitably it came into contact with less reputable elements in Sirius. The Division operated in these markets in the same style with which they had negotiated the constantly-shifting and turbulent House markets, and it wasn't long before Division associates were found in every capital and dive bar throughout Sirius.

Over time, the Division’s interests and those of its parent company began to diverge. Foreseeing problems, Division President Jay Simon was able to organize a buyout of stock from Interspace Commerce, creating the Independent Neuralnet Division.

After its separation from Interspace, the Division quickly made several corporate acquisitions including Renzu Corporation, Liberty Police, Inc., and others. It also funded the construction of Wall Street Station and Renzu Shipyards, the operation of which became the gold standard in discreet, secure, and timely asset movement and the covert financing of private and public market projects.

Several propaganda campaigns directed by the Lane Hackers greatly tarnished the Division’s image after the retirement of several key members of its management group. In the absence of the original “Big Four,” comprised of Jay Simon, Jonathan Winchester, Greg Baylish and Otis Jethro, public sentiment deteriorated to the point where Division stock prices dipped below its initial offerings. Interspace Commerce took advantage of the Division’s mismanagement and purchased a controlling interest in it during the next three years. Many of its staff and existing management were absorbed into claim adjustment and underwriting positions within Interspace.

Under Interspace’s brand once more, the Division’s public image continued to decline, and without continued capital contributions or innovative marketing investments to offer its clients in the Division’s name, it was left to become a mere shell. Efforts by Otis Jethro and Peter Hanson to re-purchase Division assets were successful; yet in an effort to avoid a similar fall-from-grace in the future, they were transferred to a number of trusts placed in the management of Lawrence Preston, a former legal associate with close ties to Division’s less-than-legal operational practices. With the assets of the Division at his disposal, Preston has attempted to mend the Division’s old divides and provide an alternative investment and asset acquisition product to discerning and anonymous clients throughout the sector in an effort to ultimately return the brand to a place of prominence.

"We don't own this place, but we have an understanding with the people who do."

The Fine Print

Every member of the Division is charged with maintaining the generally lawful perception of the organization by abiding by the best possible examples of conduct expected of players in Discovery. Roleplay options are open to its members to explore the not-so-shiny side of corporate intrigue and less-than-lawful underbelly of the sector.

The primary purpose of the Division is to serve as a launching platform for a rich array of interaction with whatever persons or organizations with whom its members might encounter in their various travels. While “We’re richer than you” many not have the same ring it has in the past, wealth acquisition is always an acceptable option as well as wealth distribution to encourage events, roleplay on the forums and in-game, and to demonstrate how wealthy the Division remains.

The Division (or the IND) is one of the oldest factions on the Discovery RP server and counts many of the server’s founding members within its ranks. With a rich and robust history providing for the foundation of what many might consider to be an overly-shady branch of Interspace Commerce, the Division encourages open roleplay behind a winsome front of being entirely legitimate. Or it’s perfectly legitimate atop an undercurrent of shadiness. Maybe we're perfectly legitimate without an ounce of shadiness in our bones. Heck we're so good, we're practically glowing.

1. Be excellent to one another and others on the server. Meet people. Interact with people. Failure to do so or purposeful avoidance will result in immediate dismissal.
1.1. Out-of-Roleplay, you will be expected to handle yourself.
1.2. Don't get caught doing something considered less than legal. If you do, don’t get “caught.” If you can’t, expect to deal with the consequences.
2. Discovery server rules are to be obeyed and respected at all times. There is no excuse for not being aware of these rules. Failure to adhere to the rules will be judged according to the infraction and resulting sanction.
2.1.Generally expect to be dismissed.
3. All members of the faction must be registered members of the Discovery forums. We apologize for the inconvenience. Don't forget your waders and nose plugs.
3.1. Don't be a dumb on the forums.
4. Roleplay is paramount in-game and on the forums. Going in with all guns blazing will not be tolerated. Punishment is instant dismissal. Witty banter in local is encouraged and rewarded.
5. Your reputation sheet should reflect our base ID diplomacy status, but roleplay is open to established faction diplomacy. In any event, hobnobbing with those damn dirty Hackers will result in being tarred and feathered.
6. Ship and weapons are to match permitted lists at all times.
6.1. The shiplist is extremely vague. If it feels shady, ask first. If it doesn’t feel shady, ask first.
7. Out-of-Roleplay bantering is severely frowned upon. If you’re discussing rules, your mother's cooking, or which Power Ranger is your favorite and the text isn’t green or pink, we’ve got a problem. There are plenty of clever ways to discuss such things, and it will be expected.
8. Real life comes first. This is an internet spaceship game. Should you decide to spend your free time playing an internet spaceship game, you should have a good time doing so.
9. All ships are expected to be and remain Rank 90 (except fighters and bombers). We have a reputation to maintain. In doing so, you may receive messages from new players asking questions or generally seeking help. You are expected to help them and to encourage their enjoyment of the game. Remember, at some point, someone else did the same for you.
