Do you run things as an Administrator? Those malwares can modify your registry and whatnot...

Let me also add to this, that I didn't update my Windows for years, and had no problems with it, nor never encountered any malicious acts against my PC , and I haven't always been on the safe side of the internet, but I guess it comes down to what a computer user thinks he knows he's doing, and what he actually knows.

Windows updates aren't always necessary, unless you like to visit shady websites/programs without a proper antivirus software.

Windows 7 rocks, hands down the most stable OS around.

For an average paranoid user, yeah go for Windows 10 if you value privacy and extra steps of safety.

I had that happen a few times. It comes and goes with every update that hits W10. Just force-power it down if it happens, if you feel safe doing so.

Until you decide to get a PC with older than 2018 internals, which do not physically never even had Win7 drivers unless you count some generic beta drivers made in late 2019.
