I just started playing with discovery a few days ago, and have run into a serious problem while trying to play through the story. I'm at the point where you have to escape liberty with juni, and I'm still docked on manhattan. Problem is, the weaponry on the waiting military vehicles in space is so ridiculously overpowered I get shredded before I even have a chance to push the button for my shield batteries, let alone accelerate. I'm in a defender so my shielding isn't all that great, and due to game level constraints can't purchase the csv, which is the only thing with even remotely near enough stats to survive available on the planet. any ideas or am I totally screwed three ways to sunday?

Well, I wouldn't suggest using the 4.84 or 4.85 mods for SP, the guns are balanced for fighting class 9 ships.

One option you do have is to download the Ioncross Character Editor and edit your ship... Careful, though. Make several saves before editing one. You might just corrupt it.

Or Post Number 8, here for a tutorial:

Thread moved to a more appropriate forum.

Do not play SP with Discovery mod active. In 4.84 it was still beatable... technically... but as of 4.85 it is literally impossible as some of the triggers will not work in the adjusted systems (example, the escape from Leeds fails when you arrive at Stokes). Even when it's doable, it isn't any fun anyway due to the completely different balance, so if you want to play SP disable Discovery mod to do so. Or just leave it on and play with us... we don't bite... hard... unless you're flying a Liberty Gunboat in Omicron Alpha or something similarly stupid...

Another option is to adjust the difficulty level to compensate, there is a variable that can be adjusted to control what percentage of damage you take. Search google for freelancer god mode, that should get you there.

There's a .ini file somewhere in your documents you can edit for said difficulty value. But careful, .ini editing + multiplayer functionality = bad.

For the Core.

Yeah, just be careful, and remember to back up the files before you edit them. Call if you need any help (The tutorial is mine) doing anything, I'm happy to advise.
