ID tags when flying?

I have a Universal Shipping ID with my trader account, but other people have reported seeing the ID tag "police" next to my name in space. Is there a way to change this, or is this just a bug?

This is the wrong section to ask this.

sounds like the police like you a bit too much you probably just did alot of missions for them in the past.

Raise your rep with universal shipping up to max then fail a bunch of police mission to lower your rep with them until the tag changes.

And by the way, this is not a bug. Your ID will have no effect on your rep whatsoever, for future reference. You can buy an ID, but then you have to get the correct tag by making sure certain reps stay below the one that you want to have and then getting the rep you want high enough until it's flashing in your Player Status Screen (press F8 to see it in the game).

I wish Gaurd reps showed in the IFFs, they just say the normal faction now...bah, the new IDS are great tho, perhaps they will effect IFF in the future, lol.

Press F8 in game to open your Reputation list, scroll all the way to the bottom.
The one flashing at the bottom is your current reputation that people see before your name.
You can change it by aborting missions for that faction or killing npc's of that faction.
When your reputation drops to neutal you will loose that current reputation and the
next faction reputation that is full green will take over.
