Subject: Sealed Jump Gate in Stuttgart

Greetings friends,

Jonathan Seabourne here, captain of the OS&C liner Breezewood and chairman of Orbital Spa and Cruise. My compliments to your Navy's ability to secure the Stuttgart system and allow for the resumption of civilian travel to Baden Baden. I look forward to a continued and mutually beneficial partnership in Stuttgart.

However, even in the best of times, Baden Baden always struggled to turn a profit. With current travelers understandably skittish about inter-house travel, Orbital is looking for ways to increase Baden Baden's market share, bringing with it more Rheinland taxable revenue, of course. There is a sealed jump gate with direct access to Baden Baden. I was wondering if you could tell me more about where it might lead to and whether or not a joint venture to re-open that route might be possible. The more travel vectors to Baden Baden or the more places we can offer off-world day trips from the planet, the more appealing it will be to the travelers of Sirius and beyond.

Of course, if it is sealed for a very good reason, I will turn my attention elsewhere for how to bolster Baden Baden's appeal.

Regards,
Jonathan Seabourne

Guten Tag Herr Jonathan Seabourne,

In the name of Kaiserreich Rheinwehr, I welcome your compliments and will pass them to the Armed Forces of our Empire. As the Empire stated, our goals are and will forever be the well-being of our citizens and anyone else who chooses to reside or pass through our space.

In the matters of business, we are hoping that once the matters settle, the citizens of the Empire will once more use the services of OS&C to enjoy the views of Walker Nebula and the worlds within our borders and not only.

Regarding the sealed jump gate, that is having a certain history. That said jump gate once led to the Omega 11 but once the sun entered its final stage and began the transition to Supernova, Rheinland withdrew all the civilians within the system and sealed the gate to prevent anyone from losing their lives when the star exploded.

With that being said, I must declare that there is nothing in that sector of space which humans can enjoy. However, may we discuss some joint progress to develop Baden-Baden to suit more the market and to increase the number of tourists?

Kind regards,
Jürgen Beckendorf

Greetings Herr Beckendorf,

Alas, it seems the jump gate was sealed for a very good reason. Diplomacy can always be worked around, but I fear that even the charm of OS&C and the might of Rheinland are not enough to re-bottle an exploding star. It was wise of your people to take such precautions, and I thank you for satisfying my curiosity. I am no expert in jump gates, but I do wonder if the facilities could be repurposed to another destination. I suppose it will remain a silent sentinel for the Omega-11 system for the foreseeable future.

While on the topic of sealed jump gates, one other issue is the gate to the Bering system in Hamburg. I understand the rationale for why the gate was sealed in the Rheinland-Liberty war, and I was hoping to inquire if there was any intention of re-opening the route through Bering now that the Liberty Navy has taken care of the pirates and Insurgents in the system. A straight shot through Hamburg rather than detouring past Soltau would make our Paradise Limited route slightly faster. Enterprise class liners like Breezewooddo NOT take kindly to that sharp turn at Planet Kiel. Obviously there are a lot of security concerns for the Kaiserreich for opening up a potential attack vector with a station currently occupied by the Liberty fleet, but if other Rheinland organizations are also moving to redevelop that route, Orbital would very much be interested in partnering with them.

As for other long term goals, I do always find it a shame that while Kusari has its Renzu line, Bretonia has the Palace-class, Gallia has its Lucullus, and Liberty of course has the iconic Enterprise, a mighty house such as Rheinland does not have its own option for passenger transport. But I suppose that's a question I best take up with your shipbuilders. Given the robustness and efficiency of your freighters and mining vessels, I'd be curious to see how your engineers handle the unique needs of living passengers.

Regards,
Jonathan Seabourne
