Details

Onyx Squadron is Battlegroup Gladius' answer to the LSF, though with considerably less attention and a focus on ensuring notoriety remains as low as possible. While largely grandfathered from the Hellfire Legion, Onyx Squadron was largely reserved as an emergency wing or covert strike force at the order of the Lord Commander. Since being incorporated into the Insurgency, the prospect of a covert assault force was drowned out in the mass of political shifting after the Commonwealth's forced dissolution, until the order was given to reform Onyx Squadron into a broad Special Operations wing.

Despite being a specops wing with intentions of being the Insurgency's LSF, Onyx operates primarily as a secret border police, performing site recon against locations on the fringes of the Insurgency's sphere of influence.

Operations

Onyx Squadron operates primarily on the fringes of Insurgency territory, though can and does get recalled to primary space to assist with defense or offense. Populated primarily by Legion-era veterans, Onyx personnel rosters are unknown to all except the pilots themselves and the Admiralty, though ties to Task Force commanders, quartermasters, and occasional trusted contacts are made.

Onyx Squadron makes no use of capital-grade warships, fielding exclusively either Liberty- or Insurgency-built strike craft, though does make use of general commissioned warships during coordinated operations.
