BIOGRAPHY
Jeremiah Albert Latif was born on Planet Los Angeles in 794 A.S. to a middle-class family of heritage clerks.
Though expected to follow in his parents professional footsteps, the work never sparked interest in the young man and led to brewing tensions between them. In an act of rebellion and escape, Latif joined the Liberty Navy and entered West Point Military Academy upon turning 18.
After graduation, he was assigned to an operational tour lasting 24 months - during which the war between Liberty and Rheinland broke out and the Cruiser DeRussy, to which he was assigned to, was deployed to Front. The ship took part in multiple combat missions against the Rheinlanders through the Bering, Hudson and Texas systems, up until the destruction of the jumpgates leading to the Hamburg system.
Following the Gallic advance, and later on the occupation of the Leeds system, the DeRussy returned to spacedock for maintenance, in preparation for redeployment to the Gallic front along with Jeremiah aboard - freshly promoted to the rank of Lieutenant by this time.
The DeRussy took part in skirmishes against the Gallic Royal Navy along the Magellan and California frontier, as well as taking part in Operation Royal Flush, and was present during the destruction of Battleship Oubli and her battlegroup. The ship was later assigned to the New London system security, with primary objective to reinforce the system's defences and launch attacks into Leeds. During once such sortee, the ship sustained heavy damage and Jeremiah was one of the casualties, leading to a mild recovery period.
Once field repairs to the DeRussy had made her space-worthy again, the cruiser returned to duty in New London, this time to the planet's orbit in preparation for the upcoming assault by GRN forces against the amassed Allied Powers. The overstretched invading fleet was broken in the bloody incursion that followed and force to retreat at last, leading to the full liberation of the devastated Leeds system. The DeRussy stationed on station there for a short time to ensure final security and transfer of security back to Bretonian forces before at last returning home to Liberty. For valiant distinction in battle, Jeremiah was promoted again to Lieutenant Commander and became the Executive Officer of the cruiser until her tour of duty ended. After an interim shore assignment lasting 12 months, Latif was again assigned as XO of the DeRussy for spell before taking over completely as Captain of the vessel upon his commanders retirement.
