Erik Hartmann was born into a working-class family on Planet Stuttgart. His father worked as an engineer maintaining climate control systems for terraforming farms, while his mother handled logistics for a local ALG Waste Disposal branch. From an early age, Erik showed aptitude with machinery and took up work as a freelance mechanic at a small, independent shipyard near the Hamburg system.

Over the years, he witnessed the exploitative grip of Rheinland corporations tighten around the throats of working men and women. Pay cuts, coverups, and "accidents" — all written off by executives in Liberty suits or by shady Rheinland boardrooms. When one of his friends died in a preventable workplace incident and the investigation was buried, Erik snapped.

He walked away from civilian life and began seeking out voices of resistance. The Unioners were not just a refuge — they were a cause. Now, Erik lends his technical skills to retrofit civilian vessels into hardened strike craft, eager to fight back and help shape a Rheinland where workers have a voice.
