Has there been any discussion on including the playerbase like once before, or have we settled on the players being too incapable of being part of the story, and only the devs (who are also just players) are the ones who can control it?

Hey bud. I’ve been giving this some thought.

The closest thing I’ve seen as far as player driven storylines was when we first incorporated the Official Faction Perks. For it to function though, it required player involvement, admin approval and a little dev magic. Obviously, this process required the cooperation of many people.

The results were interesting. Some faction leaders adamantly refused to take advantage of this opportunity to grow their faction. Others, put in a half-hearted effort and expected instant upgrades to their faction ID. A few put in the work involved, but we’re trying to get their ID into godmode to take complete control of their sphere of influence.

Our goal of inducing players to join official factions never materialized. Neither did our goal of allowing players to effect positive permanent changes to their storyline. The opportunity was there. It was just that no one took advantage of it in a way that didn’t destroy other factions.

Looking back, I have to say that players, in general, lack either the dedication and or the broader perspective of Disco balance to be involved in serious storyline changes.
