Binski, I will make some arguments that will bury your efforts forever, and there's nothing we can do here.

1. Insufficient playerbase. Most players aren't interested in base sieging in its current state, they do roleplay between each other, trade, mine, play pvp. But also they have jobs, parents, sleep, children and many-many other real life stuff to do.
2, Technical impossibility of implementation. I mean, actually, you can, but through either old unstable plugins that led to server crash at best, or very frequent patches that require accurate system rework, because just base IFF changing can also cause server crash anytime player appears at the conquered base. System devs will just have lots of unnecessary work and, as a consequence, slow down work on everything else.

I like this idea, but we all know there are players from another side of the planet, so I can suggest make at random hours.

(08-14-2022, 10:31 AM)Shimamori Wrote: It is exactly because I care about RP that I disagree with you. Ok, the OC have ZOI in Liberty. ZOI is ooRP rules regulation and inRP representation of the regions of operation (do not confuse it with conquest). Your mentioning ZOI and having BS as arguments related to RP are quite laughable. Now look at the confrontation of the OC vs Liberty from the point of view of socio-political-economic situation: a few OC battleships far away from home with extremely stretched supply lines and limited support of the local allies are put against an absolute beast of a powerhouse of Liberty with multiple fleets of many battleships/battlecruisers/cruisers, etc, excellent supply lines at home, strong economy to support them with food/repairs/etc, know-how and expertise. Liberty can literally wipe any OC "fleet" out of existence if the OC show up openly in New York. The only chance for someone to breach in NY successfully is another House and even then it will suffer from supply lines and fighting at home of Liberty, so probably only an alliance of Houses can succeed there. Thus, it is just ridiculous to offer a system that would make an attack of OC on Newark possible if one cares about the RP. This is not "real" RP like you say, this is some Twilight fan-fiction level of plausability. Again, there are other problems with the system.

P.S. D&D allows for PvP and I have tried it too. Just do the meta with cleric with strength domain to oneshot ppl or a neutral unsmiteable druid with a 1lvl monk dip to also be OP. Well, if timestop is not allowed, otherwise - timestop and stomp.

That's putting far too much attention to supposed inrp details, that don't seem to matter when it suits some here. Again, if it were RL, and an OC attack on Newark were a suicide run, the system makes it the same thing. Except if they wanted to waste the effort for a headline (say its terrorism) and to create some action, they could be bold. There is just no way it's better with nothing going on. Putting too much emphasis on all that keeps the place too locked up, it used to be a lot more active here. The doomsday scenarios are not a reason to keep the place dead. All that doesn't matter when there's no one left to care, or perceive this game world in general. This place can still function just fine and everything would be roleplayable. To keep it as is amounts to a huge waste.

My whole point is that after allowing such opportunity, players might stay more, and it might turn around after 6 months with people using factions to try to shake things up, and finally put some coommensurate accuracy to player actions, faction actions, and lore. If we build it, they will come.

Mechanically from what I've seen it can be done, but yes its a shame work on it didn't start like 5 years ago, imagine where we could be now.

If it went into effect today, within 2 weeks someone would simply make a try on a station. Everyone would be able to get involved. Maybe another elsewhere arises during, or not long after. It wouldnt be so bad to check things here and find that going on. A real siege means no ignoring it out of assumed fixed outcomes, and players will have real stuff to find to do far more often, and that makes logging far more enticing.

I wasn't gonna say it, but I finally just got a big internet upgrade so I'd love to jump back in for real but there is literally nothing to do but supply POB's. I never played here for missions or killing npc's. With a system allowed, suddenly a faction may really have use for a spy to watch potential future targets, keep track of where has defenses, and what, etc. And not to mention, "he who controls the scidata mining zones, controls the universe". Wanna stop unlawful siege chances? Patrol the anomaly fields, build a base out there to secure it. That battle alone will also make it more active just to get people trying. I know I would, if I'm not banned for starting this conversation here. Confused Smile
