I'm no computer expert, so I'll just go through what happened.

I downloaded the newest version of the mod, 4.82 Beta 3, and activated it. I turned on spinning planets and left the maximum tradelane distance view at 25K. I didn't touch anything having to do with Open SP. I got on the server in Brakelatabasaasta, and flew around in front of Manhattan for a bit. The planet did spin, and I could see tradelane rings from 25K away. However, there was client-side lag; the screen-jumpy kind of client-side lag. I figured it was because of my spinning planets and distant tradelane rings that was causing it, thinking it was too much for the computer to animate, or something. I logged off, got into FLMM, and began to deactivate the mod (Since this is the only way that I know of, at least, to change my mod settings). About half-way through the deactivation, my computer froze up. I checked the task manager and saw that CPU usage was at 100%. I exited out of every other program that was running: Firefox, Account manager, etc., but I kept FLMM up so that the mod would deactivate properly. CPU was still at 100%, and the bar indicating the mod's deactivation status still was not moving, so I went ahead and exited FLMM, and restarted the computer, as it would not do anything else at the time. I log back into my computer, start up FLMM, and begin trying to deactivate the mod again. Only this time, it gets about half-way done, and then pops up with a message that says:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ERROR: FLMM has determined that 'Discovery Mod v4.82 beta 3' won't properly deactivate.

This was only the test run, so no files were changed (besides being decompressed).
Look in the log for more details.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

I looked in the log, where it said this:
Warning: unable to restore 'c:\program files\microsoft games\freelancer\exe\freelancer.ini' because no backup exists! (test run)

I looked into that file with Windows Explorer, and saw that it was indeed in there. However, I assume that this file is from the Discovery Mod, and that the one I am looking at is the one that couldn't be deactivated because I have no backup of the original.

I decided to go onto the the server to see if anything had changed with my mod, even though FLMM had said that the deactivation was only a "test run". I went on to my account that has a Large Train, Starblazer, Wyrm, and RH Bomber. When I joined the server and was prompted for which character I would play, my Starblazer, Wyrm, and RH Bomber characters all had ???? where their ship name should be. The only one still intact was my Large Train. I joined on my Large Train, and tried to undock with the base I was on. Once I undocked, the game crashed. I tried again, but this time the game crashed when I tried to join the server.

So that's where I am. My assumption is that I need to replace that file, and the only way I can think to do that is by re-installing the game. However, I don't have the Freelancer CD, so I'll have to get a friend to come over (*cough*Kanegetoverhere*cough*) and bring his CD. If anyone else knows what to do, advice would be greatly appreciated. And yes, because of this, I will not be on the server for a few days, in case you couldn't infer that from my technical difficulties.

I'm not sure about your problem, but redownload discovery. Maybe corrupted during download. Another way to deactivate mods is to go to 'tools' and select 'restore backups'. That should fix it.

I am a long-absent Supreme Commander, Executive Commander, Grand Admiral, Fleet Admiral, and Captain in the mighty Hellfire Legion. I have returned, and am on an urgent mission from Drake Thastus to return the Legion to its former glory, and to claim the galaxy for its own. Only then will I be able to rest.

Aha! That seemed to work; thanks, Best-man-person!

Now for the ultimate test: Will it work on the server?

Ya I saw you when you were on. You were dieing and lagging. But I don't think it was Discovery. When we were on Xfire did a update. It slowed down my pc like crazy, Same with my friend Trando. So I am not sure if it was the mod or not. Or if you even use xfire.

No, I don't use Xfire. And if you saw me dying, then that was probably Brakelatabasaasta. He lives to die, anyway.
