The Republican Provisional Assembly
ID: Mollys, IFF: Mollys, Tag: RPA|

Background

"Not one of us asked for this. But we were all faced with the same choice: die a rat's death, choking on fumes in some forgotten tunnel, or fight, tooth and nail, for the right to work decently. From the moment you stared down the corpo enforcers, picks in hand, and told them there won't be another bloody shift, you made your choice, same as us. Welcome to the movement, lads. We'll make soldiers out of you yet."

The Republican Provisional Assembly, or RPA, is a Dublin-based organisation of Mollys. Originally a small miners' collective calling themselves the Cymro, after an archaic word believed to mean 'Kin', they have begun expanding their membership in recent years to include all stripes of Mollys, and recently even recruiting from the survivors of Leeds and other dispossessed Bretonians for a common goal: solidifying the workers' movement into something more cohesive.

The current de-facto leader of the RPA is Chancellor Jac Yarwood, a miner and captain of the Dolaucothi, an ageing Hegemon that plies the gold fields for the valuable ore that funds the movement's endeavours, serving less as a military commander and more as an overall leader and mediator between the different and sometimes conflicting facets of the men and women the Assembly is attempting to forge into a cohesive force.

With Bretonia in possibly its worst state in its history, the RPA espouses that if there was ever a time to stand together and truly try and accomplish something more than raids, insults, and isolated separatism, it is now. We cannot simply stand by and hide in Dublin. A victory that leaves Bretonia free to strike us down when they have recovered, be that in five years, ten, or even fifty, is no victory at all!

Objectives

Victory in the War of Final Liberation is the only long term goal of the Assembly. Attempts to define the concept are ongoing, but most agree that the Assembly must achieve one of the following:

• Overturn the Bretonian aristocracy and establish a Bretonian Republic with a pro-Molly establishment before peace and reintegration is an option.
• Alternatively, establish a Free Molly State in space controlled by the Mollys, recognised by international powers and with protections against Bretonian reprisal.

In the short term, the immediate objectives of the Assembly are:

• Secure the Dublin system from incursion by both the Crown and Corsairs, as well as any other threat that should rear its head.
• Engage in strikes against the Bretonian Armed Forces and the Crown's exploitative corporations to prolong Bretonia's recovery from the Gallic War.
• Ensure the living conditions for the civil population of the Mollys movement remains acceptable, keeping Arranmore, Lisburn Rock and Mull well supplied.
• Maintain control of the gold mining operations in Dublin, forcing Bretonian entities out, and either making neutral miners and transports pay a tax, or out-pricing other established bases to incentivise purchasing directly from our own facilities.

At this time the Assembly has made little effort in establishing an actual functioning democratic process, as bogging down the movement in such bureaucracy would be counter-productive to the effort, and so the Chancellor remains an autocratic position, and will continue to do so until the movement has the freedom and security to transition into a true Republic.

Organisation

The Assembly is a proto-government entity that emerged from the Molly movement in the years leading up to the destruction of Graves Station and expulsion of Bretonian military elements from the Dublin system. It does not have a single unified ideology aside from shared anti-BMM, anti-Crown sentiment, but it provides a platform for the diverse voices within the movement. While its stated objective is an eventual formation of a democratic government body, in its current form it is a group of advisers and influential Molly figures with a single Chancellor to lead them.

The Chancellor is elected for a five-year term and is the only elected office in the Assembly, responsible for executive decisions and matters of diplomacy.

The RPA members organise to perform various occupations and are split into military and civilian branches. The heads of these branches answer to the Assembly.

• The Provisional Republic Fleet (PRF) is a paramilitary force of the Assembly tasked with defending Dublin and advancing the interests of the Assembly on the battlefield in the War of Final Liberation. Their equipment is of varying standards, with some units scrounging for surplus gear and a lucky few toting military-grade pieces acquired on the black market. Very few of the PRF personnel have received formal military training and were able to pass it on to others in the movement. Their basic protocols and chain of command make the PRF more comparable to a well-organised militia than a true professional military in the way they command warships and pilot fighters.

The Provisional Republic Fleet's ranking system uses the following ranks:

Soldier

The life expectancy for BMM miners before the Founders Day Revolt was less than six years. They are the voice that went unheard, turned to militant insurrection as the only path left open. Every Molly is a soldier, and the PRF is their army. This is the lowest rank, most commonly held by frontline fighters and rank-and-file troops.

Chief

An experienced Molly pilot that commonly holds a minor leadership position, such as a flight leader, a warship bridge officer or a workroom manager. They are often responsible for training their charges in combat and survival skills.

Brigadier

A mid-level officer of the PRF that holds overall command over an individual warship, multiple wings of strike craft, or an entire work crew and acts as a guide and an example to follow to their fellow Mollys. As a note, the Mollys do not usually use "sir/madam" as a form of address towards higher ranks. They instead refer to them by their job title or their surname prefaced with Mister/Missus/Miss.

Commander

A high-ranking officer responsible for planning and executing missions and running the day-to-day operations of the Fleet.

Admiral

The supreme commander of the PRF and military advisor to the Chancellor's Office, responsible for the Fleet's overall strategic decisions. This post is currently held by Imogen O'Sullivan.

• The Assembly Military Intelligence (AMI) fights on the hidden front of the War of Final Liberation. It is not only tasked with gathering and analysing information on Bretonian military movements and events in the wider Sirius sector, but also coordinates the various Molly facilities and planetside cells scattered throughout Bretonia. The AMI network is working on entrenching itself into Bretonian working class population, providing the Mollys with recruits, informants and stolen supplies.

• The Assembly Mining Corps (AMC) is primarily concerned with the Mollys' original trade - collecting and refining raw gold ore, as well as maintaining an ethical standard of working conditions and practices for their labourers. They operate a fleet of transports and mining vessels out of Connacht Depot. The AMC exchanges expertise with the IMG and often cooperates with them in their mining operations.

• The Free Dublin Shipping Company (FDSC) is an official-sounding name for a group of Molly smugglers that aligned with the RPA. It is the main logistical branch of the Assembly, acting as distributors of gold on the black market. They also procure and ship vital supplies for the movement. Their chief operation is the "Path of Life" initiative, which is a coordinated effort with the Provisional Republic Fleet to ensure a steady flow of trade into Dublin past the Crown's blockade and Corsair raiders.

Ideology

All Mollys hold the Bretonian establishment in contempt, but they have varied views on how to deal with it. As the movement grew over the years, it attracted individuals with diverse viewpoints into a multi-generational struggle, resulting in a new proto-society. The Assembly is a compromise between these viewpoints, promoting a pragmatic, unified effort to combat the Bretonian oppressors. But even within the RPA ranks, people tend to fall into distinct, but overlapping subfactions.

• The Seppies are focused on anti-Bretonian sentiment and separatism, aiming to establish an independent state in Dublin. They may disagree on what that state should look like, but they see it as a distinct entity from Bretonia, pursuing independence above other interests.

• The Syndies are mainly concerned with opposing corporations and promotion of Bretonian workers' rights. Their goal complete dismantlement of BMM as an entity and formation of a new, more ethical organisation to run their trade.

• The Recons are populist republicans who are focused on garnering influence in Bretonian politics to topple the rule of the Crown and privileged nobility to usher in a republican Bretonia with a pro-Molly establishment.

• The Drifters are opportunists without strong views: they joined the movement for personal reasons and support whichever faction is convenient for them at the time.

Diplomacy

ALLIED - Honorary Kin

Coalition - They may be a rogue state out in the sticks, but they have supported us when it mattered and we'll do the same for them.

Mollys - Our kin. We can always trust our people, if no-one else.

Red Hessians - Our ideological cousins from Rheinland may have devolved into marauding pirates, but they bear the brunt in the fight against a common enemy: the Corsairs. In this, we are united.

FRIENDLY - Friends of the Resistance

Bundschuh - The Rheinland opposition movement has consistently expressed support for us. We should learn a thing or two from them if we ever go down the path of gaining political sway over Bretonia.

Independent Miners Guild - We have common roots and a common cause. More importantly, a lot of our trade goes through the IMG, and the loss of the Hood set us both back.

NEUTRAL - No Strong Feelings

Gaians - We have both clashed and joined forces in the past. Our support bases do not overlap, as they draw their backing from the politically-active upper class on Cambridge. Maybe one day we'll figure out how to get along.

Junkers - They sell us vital supplies and smuggle our products. Great. They do the same for Corsairs. Not so great. Still, they are too useful to get rid of.

Lane Hackers - We have little in common with these upper-class ex-corporates, but they are reliable trade partners and information dealers, if nothing else.

Order - We do not know much about them, apart from their existence. Still, we have no reason to mess with them.

Outcasts - The Maltese smuggle their drug through our territory and squabble with Cretans. So long as they don't encroach on our business, we'll leave them be. But if needed, we'll remind them who owns Bretonia.

Technocracy - This enigmatic organisation has fought against the Crown and provided us with advanced technology. Still, their true motives remain unclear.

Zoners - Can't blame people wanting to be free of the Houses, and their money is good. But remember: when push comes to shove, they will look out for themselves first.

UNFRIENDLY - Suspicious Lot

Gallic Lawfuls and Corporations - The Gallic invaders talked big during the war with their promises of support. Then they destroyed the Belfast, glassed Leeds and ran with their tails between their legs. Still, they might have their uses.

Gateway Shipping - This Bretonian company is not owned by the Crown and has ties to the IMG. They might not be totally irredeemable, but they still pay their taxes. Extort them.

Kusari Lawfuls and Corporations - Kusari is no better than any other House. That aside, they really want our gold. Expect them to set aside their rivalry with Bretonia to try to get it.

Liberty Lawfuls and Corporations - Liberty has been nothing but a staunch supporter of the Crown. Coincidentally, Liberty has a lot of sway over Bretonia due to the debts they accumulated. They are targets of opportunity.

Planetform - This is more of a Gaian speciality. Still, nothing wrong with plundering this royal money sink.

Everyone Else - We're not as isolationist as before. But don't take it for granted.

HOSTILE - Enemies of the Republic

BMM - For as long as they live, there's going to be hell to pay.

Border Worlds Exports - An attack against them is an attack on the Crown's wallet.

Bounty Hunters Guild - These turncoat bootlickers deserve a slow death. The IMG finds them useful. We find them disgusting.

Bretonian Lawfuls - All of the Crown's attack dogs revile us for daring to stand up for ourselves. Let the Crownies gloat. Then kill them.

Corsairs - These vultures have been trying to plunder Dublin for ages. They have destroyed the Hood and are having the time of their lives butchering our kin. We will not stop hammering at them until we forge our retribution. And when that day comes, they will pay for the misery they have caused tenfold.

Gallic Royalists - Many of us had family on Leeds. It may have been a dump, but it was our biggest source of recruits. Suffice to say, we're not thrilled.

Rheinland Lawfuls and Corporations - This House has not only managed to cause a workers' uprising twice but has gone ahead and turned itself imperial. More importantly, they've gone as far as sending expeditionary forces to Dublin, despite the beating they took in Dresden. They are just as bad as Bretonia, and we will treat them as such.

Nomads & Wild - If it's not human, it probably wants you dead. Or worse.

Naming Conventions

Fighters, Bombers & Small Craft: RPA|Name.Surname. Alternatively, RPA|Callsign-X, where X is a number, may be used as well.

Gunboats, Frigates & Cruisers: RPA|PRW-Name for a Provisional Republic Warship.

Freighters, Transports & Asteroid Miners: RPA|PRS-Name for a Provisional Republic Ship.

Example names for Molly ships may be cities and industrial/mining towns in the UK or Ireland, creatures and objects from Celtic lore, revolutionary concepts and historical figures of Bretonia, or mineral and mining-related terms. For a less serious name, funny UK English phrases and expressions may be used.

Molly callsigns for fighter squadrons are highly personalised, but may include small animals, especially rodents, birds and house pests, spirits and mythological figures, and nicknames.

OORP / Game Information

The RPA is a Molly faction, hoping to bring the disparate collection of Molly Indies and anyone else interested into a more cohesive group to represent both the civilian and military sides of the Molly movement and generate unlawful activity in Bretonia. Mining, smuggling, trading, PVE, PVP - we do it all. New players are, of course, welcome.

Characters are encouraged to be from all walks of life and demographics of Bretonia. Your Molly can be of Irish, UK, or Commonwealth cultural background, or in rare cases, a sympathiser from another House. We are separatists, republicans, anti-monarchists brought together by the common cause. If you're a man or woman looking for change in the Bretonian government, or full independence from it, you're welcome here.

Had brief but pleasant RP in Poole and the writeup is uncomplicated (as the template faction is, somewhat) but shows genuine effort. Looking forward to further interactions!

I've had a few run ins with you guys so far, and they've been universally good. It's always nice to see Mollys around and consistently doing their thing. Definitely one of the groups that I'll divert my route to interact with if I see you online.

I'm also a big fan of the writeup having the branching goals of either establishing a Bretonian republic or a breakaway state in Dublin. Adds an additional dimension to the group identity, which could otherwise feel a little flat. It also gives you a lot more flexibility in terms of tubthumping and other in-game bickering, which is great for keeping the RP fresh!
