Hi everyone!

Recently I've fancied the idea using Jump Hole Generators as they seem to be a great source of RP and a great way to create some unexpected and unique situations regardless the hefty price. I don't plan to create OP trading situations, I'm not interested in that. I plan to base the generation on thorough RP too.

However the only description I've found is not completely clear on their use. (https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...tid=144665)

My questions:
- Can I determine both the starting and the target system of the Jump Holes?
- Can I initiate the Jump Hole from any system? (apart from generic IDs that can only initiate from outside House Space)
- According to the description it has a random chance to malfunction. Does anyone know what the chance is? Is this still a thing?
- What happens on malfunction? (no problem if this one remains a mystery Smile )

Thanks in advance!

Good evening.

To answer your questions:
1) As stated in the Thread, you only chose the 'start' position.
Quote:While the player has complete control where to put the ''entrance'' to the jumphole, the exit is semi-randomized. The generator also has a small chance to fail catastrophically, which would trigger a whole different kind of event.

2) Yes, as long as they are 'in-Game'.
3) & 4) There never appeared to be any 'table' to work out where a) the other end ended up or b) a chance of a malfunction.

I believe that Spazzy had his own way of working out where the other end went and the % chance of a 'failure'.

For Admins, they would have to write a list of Systems, assign them numbers, with maybe a couple of numbers for a 'failure' and then roll a dice to determine where it ends up.

For a 'failure', they then would have to, possibly, 'make up' an Event.

Thanks for the great answers! I still have a few more questions:

- 'the exit is semi-randomized' - What does that mean? Can I determine the target system and inside the system the placement of the hole is random? Or I have absolutely no control over even the target system?
- Are 'Uncharted' systems valid for jump holes? I'd love to visit them even for a weekend event and make some RP out of it. Since there's not much inside I don't see much room for powergaming. Just some exploration like in the old days Smile If I remember correctly the whole purpose of the Uncharteds was to have events in them so it doesn't feel out of place but you tell me.

1) Like I said, there was never a list to go from. My feeling is that the semi-random element would have been something along the lines of 'Can anything come of this?' ie if the JH appeared in the same system it started in, then probably another roll of the dice would have happened.

2) I believe 'Uncharteds' are becoming viable with the next Update, so I can't see why not. But that would have to be a decision that the Admins/Devs would have to make.

Thank you! Much clearer now. Smile

Any relevant / credible info on this matter is welcome, especially from Admins/devs!

Admins are manually setting up both ends of those event jump holes.
As such they may or may not decide to move the target from your intended one. I'd assume it's for the economy related reasons.
If it's Uncharteds I'd *ASSUME* it'd just be granted because there's nothing of value there.
