This isn't the best way to introduce myself, but we'll see what happens. I used the plural as they (my impressions) apply to both the Single player and multi-player versions of the Discovery mod.
It was nice that the multi-player version starts off with several locations already known, but it was actually closer to a plethora of them and so perhaps too many. The same cannot be said for the Single player version as you start off with no locations known (other than the starting one) in spite of the story line claiming otherwise.
I don't recall if I actually played much of the Single player version once I encountered the disparaging discrepancies between the story-line information and known locations. I did play the multi-player game for a short while, but I found it extremely discouraging that every new player that was logging on was RED.
So, I may not hang around very long, but we'll see what happens. I prefer PVE over PvP and ceased playing EVE on-line for that very reason; as many of the other players were only there to Destroy whatever they could.
Hey, what PvE have you tried in Discovery multiplayer so far? How was your experience, players aside?

I've managed to make two small runs safely. I say small, but there were over 20 waypoints involved each way. That's a feature that should've been added a long time ago, but apparently hasn't been suggested: adding the number of waypoints to the list of potential destinations.
I'm playing via my laptop (which was probably the wrong choice; as typing is a real pain - due to how it's situated), I think a large freighter captain tried to say hello, or whatever, but I don't really have a handle on how that works. I hope that's not a problem as it did say this is an RP server and I'd hate to be accused of not participating appropriately,
I also have yet to look through all the various posts as that's always a daunting task due there being so many to peruse.

Roleplaying will take a moment to get used to. Unless you already RP’d, but if you want, here’s my discord if you want to chat and ask questions: fenrir_2003

It’s the same picture as via the forum.

It's possible to "host" your own personal LAN server and connect to it. Then your progress will be saved and you'll be able to, effectively, play single player.

It's kind of how some modern multiplayer games create a local LAN server under the hood, when you play singe player.

It should not be hard to do and the server should not take much of your system's resources. If you're interested and need info doing that, ask here or send me a PM. A bit janky of a solution, for sure, but works. I've played that way.

I had one set up on this laptop previously with the original game (and modifications for the starting money and was neutral or friendly with all factions). In fact, it still acts as if it works, but I haven't tried it.

As for the role playing: I was one of the original D&D players when TSR was just an infant. So, it won't be hard to do, it's just the communications part of it that I have to figure out.

I just want to say, you start with a Freelancer ID so basically anyone besides nomads and similar is neutral to you.
The red messages you see in the chatbox only tell you who logs in and out (as long as you have latter turned on in the launcher)
You're free to PvE, of course you might encounter pirates trying to take your cargo from time to time.
The singleplayer is not developed to play the campaign, it's more of a sandbox tool to test ships and guns or whatever you wanna test, just as Elvinos said.
Give it another shot maybe, it's just a misunderstanding Smile

I agree with the quote shown above, give it another try mate.
Maybe you need the right tutorials, guides and company in the game Wink
Then, you can decide better xD

I now have to decide whether to try and figure out how to undo this installation and put my game back the way it was or stick it out for a while and see if I can derive any enjoyment out of playing with y'all. Sadly, as with EVE, it only takes one person to ruin ALL the fun.
So, why did I even find this mod? Well, I was hoping to learn more about how to modify the game myself. It has a lot of untapped potential. If only I had the knowledge required to fully develop said possibilities.

Discovery mod is meant to be played in multiplayer as it's a roleplaying game. The devs write the story and we are roleplay characters inside that world. Singleplayer is only meant as a testing ground. I'm afraid you misunderstood the mod itself.
