Refit Plans

Once a 'vacation ship' for Ouroboros' founder placed under the ownership of Starcat Enterprises, a shell company for the movement's financing based out of Gran Canaria, the Utsunomiya is named after the Terran birthplace of Nodoka Hanamura, the once administrator of Freeport 11, who later returned to her house of Kusari to seek revenge on the Kusari state and Kishiro Technologies for wrongs committed against them and countless others as part of supposed unethical experimentation and cryostasis, along with general disgust as what has been seen as a 'de-evolution' of Kusari society and politics since the collapse of its' predecessor from Sol.

The Utsunomiya following struggles against the GMG's security forces was recalled from service with Starcat as part of a staged attack on the ship, leading to a simple changing of banner to be assigned as part of the Ouroboros' Abdicant Seraphine Carrier Battlegroup as part of a plan to divert through deep space via jump drive propulsion to arrive in the Taus for redeployment of forces in friendlier space. However, the devestating energy pulse that sent Sirius' infrastructure into the dark, first laid claim upon the flagship of the Ouroboros, resulting in a debilitating powerplant and jump drive failure, with the faction eventually moving to scuttle the Seraphine and move C3BM (Command, Control, Communications and Battle Management) functions to the Utsunomiya, even with its' lacking defensive capabilities - due to the lackluster state of the Tochigi and other ships in the battle group.

Arriving back in the Sirius Sector in 834 AS, the Utsunomiya and her battlegroup would flee once again to inverness, seeking to re-amass their forces, and aid and abet the Pennsylvania Liberation Front, whose fight resonates with the group's aspirations. The group also seems to harbor sympathies with Task Force Prometheus.

The Utsunomiya prior to her departure with the Abdicant Seraphine, underwent an extensive rapid refit, installing salvaged systems from wreckages of Libertonian, IMG and Zoner ships from across the sector to provide as much defensive and sensor intelligence capability as was possible. Utilizing what limited time was at their disposal, the Utsunomiya underwent refit while Moored to FOB Maehara, as the limited modifications to the ship afforded such changes to be made, when they would normally be done within drydock. The utilization of decent military-grade sensors afforded the Utsunomiya the ability to act as a fallback vessel in the event of the Seraphine's loss or destruction.

Featuring the same sleek configuration of the rest of the Shukensha-class liners, this ship was not built for ferrying the wealthy and influential - but quite the opposite - it is a testament to the beauty and elegance of the history of the Kusari, dating back to their predecessor's ancestral ages, millennia ago on earth. Whilst limited to anti-snubcraft self-defense provided by its' IRON HAMMER CIWS batteries, the Utsunomiya makes up for this lacking armament with a sizable hangar of snubcraft that serve in combat, logistics and intelligence roles. Shielding from Livadia Shipbuilding provides best in class protection along with 1ft of sustained CITX (Carbon-Iridium-Titanium Crossweave) Plasma-resistant armor.

Ouroboros plans to, once firmly planted again in Sirius, to begin refitting the Utsunomiya into a proper successor to the Abdicant Seraphine, converting the ship into an 'Flagship Aviation Battlecruiser',

Systems

Powerplant

--Manufactured by Samura Atomics from 819 to 828, the SD-492/A Cold Fusion Reactor serves as the beating heart of the Utsunomiya, providing 224GW of power across 330 lines ranging from 120V to 1.21MV at variable amperages. This system, originally designed for maintaining a cruiseliner, has been modified through makeshift firmware and hardware changes to provide power to the various sensors, life support, propulsion, weapons and miscelleanous systems aboard.

Hardening of the powerplant against damage was a priority as part of the late 824 refits made at Maehara, as well as ensuring that the reactor was 'battleshort-capable', affording additional power to systems in the event of an emergency, at the cost of reduced powerplant lifespan, or in the case of prolonged or extensive use, reactor damage and instability. Stowed inside the rear of the hull, ahead of the propulsion block, the Utsunomiya's powerplant is reinforced further by 8 feet of CITX armor around its' housing area, ensuring low risk of external causes of a catastrophic meltdown.

In the event of main powerplant failure, or as a battleshorting supplement, a Livadia Shipbuilding EK-33 MOX Generator is available for spin-up to provide 40GW of power from 120V to 800V at variable amperages. The generator is unable to provide power on the higher voltage lines, and as such, systems like the shield generator, anciliary propulsion systems, and subluminal cruise modes on primary propulsion systems will be rendered inoperable when acting as the sole powerplant. Limited weapon energy capacity in this state is also present, resulting in a priority on use as a way to safely move to muster stations or reach allied forces for repair support.

The redundancies in place aboard the Utsunomiya ensure that much like the Seraphine before it, in a worst case scenario, crew can evacuate and scuttle the ship without immediate LSS failure or catastrophic reactor meltdown or leakage.

Propulsion

-- Driving the Utsunomiya is three individual drives, of Renzu's custom-built F-110 series, with one primary EF/3 and two C/1 engines driving the ship. Built especially for the Shukensha's needs, the engines provide ample thrust and reliability, whilst retaining a surprising degree of efficiency. Housed in the stern of the ship and additionally armored against attack from the sides, the three can function independent of each other in the event of others failing or being disabled in combat. The drives are assisted by a series of various compressed oxygen RCS thrusters across the hull, affording additional manueverability. The oxygen comes by way of the onboard hydroponics systems, which are part of the greater LSS system.

Life Support and Amenities

--Keeping the crew alive, is a Synth Foods-Ageira CCI-4490 'Eden' Life Support Suite. Taking up part of Deck F and several blocks, the system consists of four hydroponics bays, 2 CO2 Rebreathing Converters and 4 compressed oxygen tanks carrying 1.5kpsi each, affording 1 week of auxiliary oxygen supply. Eight 1,000gal tanks, split between consumption water and waste water, also make up the system, and provide water to the ship's decks.

Food supplies are retained on Deck F as well, with approximately 4 months of supplies when rationed, at full capacity. Ouroboros nutrition doctrine prioritizes foods utilizing natural sources and non-synthetic products. However, Synth Paste is kept in stock on the ship in the cargo hold as an auxiliary ration.

Amenities aboard are similar to the baseline Shukensha model, featuring a gymnasium, pool, concourse/atrium, bar, dining hall, theaters and other similar amenities. However, for the purposes of Ouroboros, these civilian luxuries have for the most part been retrofitted to serve the purposes of the movement - theaters converted into briefing rooms, the dining hall converted into a mess hall and gathering area, the various rooms aboard converted into barracks, offices and anciliary facilities such as armories. One unique modification of the Utsunomiya, is the inclusion of an artificial onsen, located near the pool on Deck C - utilizing radiation-shielded, piping from the reactor's coolant lines, the onsen is made to be similar to Kusari and historical records of Japanese hot springs, configured for communal or gender seperated use.

The Command deck, originally configured as the First Class quarters, serves as home to the Flag Quarters for high ranking Ouroboros personnel, guest quarters for guests of the movement, and the offices of the various commands and divisions of Ouroboros, much like on the Seraphine. The bridge offers an unparalleled 180-degree view of the ship's bow. The bridge, while lacking in comparison to a dedicated capital, does not fall short of the functions needed to fulfill the Utsunomiya's role.

Shield Generator

--Keeping the Utsunomiya's hull from taking direct attack is the same shield generator that protected many a Whale-class transport, The Livadia SKR-10 'Durandal'. Based on a charged positron field generated via a magnetic field wrapped around the perimeter of the ship, the SKR-10 provides ample defense against both kinetic and energy-based munitions for ships of the class.

Providing 24,000kJ of potential energy resistance, the SKR-10 takes an approximate 30 seconds to rebuild capacity after being drained and carries with it a 120,000kJ capacitor bank for emergency recharge.

Additionally, onboard nanobot-based DC systems afford partial healing functionality for the Utsunomiya.

Sensors

-- The Utsunomiya's sensors serve as one of the largest boons over the standard model Shukensha. Utilizing radar arrays from older Sagarmatha-class battlecruisers of the IMG, namely the 'Nyantse' Integrated Sensor Suite, consisting of the IMG AN/CLI-30 'Gyantse' Quantum Actively Electronically Scanned Array Search Radar, IMG AN/CLR-33 'Shigatse' Fire Control Radar and the IMG AN/CPG-11 'Baruntse' MAWS/TAWS (Missile/Torpedo Approach Warning System) IR/SAR Sensor Array.

Operating on the Ka-band and augmented by quantum computing functionalities, the Gyantse, at least by 810s standards, is one of the best ship sensors the independent worlds can offer, providing 18KSU of range, able to track up to 9,100 individual targets. Quantum radar functionalities affords resilience against radar jamming and stealth technologies, save those provided by Electro-Optical Warfare suites. The radar can also be used in a directed long range mode, where in depth 3D SAR scans of debris fields, nebulae, planetary terrain, installations and long range vessel tracking can be utilized.

Complementing the Gyantse is the Shigatse, a short range fire control radar. Whilst search radars provide high resolution, low refresh rate data, fire control radars are the inverse - sacrificing resolution, and especially range, for a high refresh rate and the ability to lock targets. Designed to work in tandem with the Gyantse radar, the Shigatse functions in multiple modes - Track while Scan, Horizon Sectional Boresight, Vertical Scan, and Single Target Track. This system has a maximum range of 10,000 SAU, capable of providing fire control targeting for the Utsunomiya's arrays of Iron Hammer CIWS batteries.

Rounding out the suite of primary sensors, is the star of the ship's defensive functionality, the AN/CPG-11 Baruntse MAWS/TAWS Array is a series of 8 individual, strategically placed short range infrared and synthetic aperture radar sensors configured to detect launches of guided munitions from snubcraft and capitals alike with a maximum range of 8,000 SAU. Utilizing sensor fusion and AI-based data correlation, the Baruntse affords fire control teams ample time to employ defensive measures against enemy munitions.

Secondary sensors primarily consist of dual Ageira 803-CK9/A vessel approach guidance and docking radars. Originally utilized on 800s-era Liberty Battleships like the LNS Unity, the 803-CK9/A provides, when combined with a functional localizer, the ability for snubcraft to dock with, and larger vessels to moor with the Utsunomiya with ease. combined with integrated IFLOLS approach lights on the main runway deck, the CK9/A serves an invaluable role in the ship's craft-carrying functionality, ensuring safe transit of spacecraft.

Communications/Intelligence Systems

--Whilst lacking in offensive capability, the Utsunomiya is by no means useless. The ship's functionality primarily supplants the Abdicant Seraphine, affording it heightened SIGINT, IMINT and MASINT capabilities, on par with 800s house military capabilities. Through the use of the series of Ageira, DSE, Samura, Livadia and even APM antenna and multi-spectral analysis systems across the ship's superstructure, the Utsunomiya is an intelligence-gathering powerhouse, capable of intercepting, decrypting, falsifying, and even jamming communications across most bands, even able to disrupt neural net functionality at a near system-level scale if so desired, albeit at the cost of exposing the ship's location through the massive amounts of radiation from the large Samura KS-110 'Shinpaku' ECM/ECCM suite antenna on the top of the ship - as well as expending a sizable degree of the ship's powerplant capacity, leaving room for little else, even when running in a battleshorted state with both main and auxiliary powerplants running.

The aforementioned Gyantse Radar, along with several high-resolution camera arrays located across the hull, provide IMINT and MASINT capabilities alongside onboard spectral analysis equipment, allowing for indepth intelligence gathering on anomalies, planets, and other objects of interest. Fusing this intelligence together, is done by way of the onboard Edgewood-class artificial intelligence, a narrow AI designed for generating human-consumable data for digest by Ouroboros' intelligence apparatus, Sanzu.

The fusion of the sensor data onboard, as well as signals intelligence, provides unparalleled datalink support functionality, allowing for a wealth of intelligence and targeting data to be shared among allied vessels in the battlespace.

Iron Hammer CIWS

--The sole defensive armament onboard the Utsunomiya, the Iron Hammer developed by CTE is standard across various transports throughout Sirius, providing a balance of firepower and speed. Configured on the Utsunomiya in a CIWS role, the Iron Hammer is a heavy hitting point defense system, capable of decimating any snubcraft or guided munitions that enter within 1000m of the ship, thanks to its' utilization of the Shigatse FCR.

Whilst the Iron Hammer is unable to put up a fight against gunboats or larger ships, the role of the Utsunomiya, at least at present, is to avoid combat wherever possible, and rely on its' fighter complement and allied assets to protect it from enemy threats.

EOW Suite

--The onboard Electro-Optical Warfare Suite of the Utsunomiya originates from a black market acquired BDR 1st Generation Capital-grade EOW suite. Developed from Rheinland prototypes acquired by way of the Colony War in 800 AS, the BDR A-110/C provides a surprisingly competent for the modern day, electro-optical defense system. The High power utilization of the EOW suite requires the full collapse of the shield generator to charge. Once charged, the shield generator is reactivated to create a stable magnetic field around the ship, which is then in turn, augmented by the EOW suite to bend light around the ship's exterior, resulting in the Utsunomiya being rendered invisible. The resonant frequencies of the field also render even quantum radar detection impossible, resulting in the ship being mostly invisible to detection. However, ships with magnetic spectral analysis equipment can detect the presence of a field in the near area.

Accompanying the A-110/C is a BDR N-40/A1 Short-Range EOW Jammer kit. Whilst weaker than more modern hardware, the N-40/A1 allows for the Utsunomiya to passively disrupt EOW systems around it in short proximity, serving as a valuable counter-intelligence tool.

Armor

--Affording the Utsunomiya's internal superstructure protection, is an average 1 foot thick Carbon-Iridium-Titanium Crossweave (CITX) armor alloy plating. Resistant against sustained energy weapon attack, the ship is however, vulnerable to kinetic munitions such as torpedoes, Hellfire rockets, and anti-capital unguided bombs, such as the Scorcher-type Hull Penetration bomb.

Snubcraft Complement

--The Utsunomiya's configuration affords it a larger than normal flight deck, comparable to carriers like the Bustard. With a exposable launch bay and runway connected to the hangars in the bow, and mooring points for freighters and gunboats in a stern docking bay.

Aboard the Utsunomiya is a complement of 45 snubcraft and 4 freighters - split between 35 fighters of Falchion, Dagger and Raven's Talon types, belonging to the Ouroboros Kotetsu Wing 1st, 3rd, and 9th Escort Fighter Squadrons, and 10 Waran-class bombers, belonging to the Kotetsu Wing's 1st and 2nd Anti-Capital Bomber Squadrons.

Serving in a logistical and intelligence role are 4 Dromedary-class ships, the OCS Yuno (FT-04), OCS Iwakura (FT-05), OCS Allegiant Hope (FI-01) and OCS Somber Attendant (FI-02).

Refit Plans

--It is clear to any keen eye, that the Utsunomiya was desperately refitted in 825 to serve the purpose of a fallback flagship vessel for Ouroboros if anything happened to the already somewhat beleaguered Abdicant Seraphine, due to issues from the lack of proper maintenance able to be done on the ship.

The Utsunomiya, now that it fufills that role, is in desperate need of refit into combat capability in order to properly fill the role of a flagship. That being said, the Utsunomiya's future is bright. Modifications to bring it up to a battlecruiser-level capital are in the early stages of being concieved, with a focus on supplementary and uprated weapons systems, modifications to the onboard Nyantse sensor suite, enlargement of the hangar bay, and VLS cells for ship-to-ship missile systems.

Snubcraft Complement

Will alone can guarantee any outcome, given the means. This mentality embodies the Bustard-class, Ayanami-subclass OCS Tochigi. Named after the mountainous prefecture of Terran Japan which the Ouroboros' leader hails from, the Tochigi was originally constructed in 819 AS for an unknown party. Purchased at auction at Freeport 11 in 825 AS by Ouroboros, the Tochigi saw little modification to bring it up to combat viability.

Armed to the teeth with Battlecruiser grade armament and enough room for 78 snubcraft (depending on configuration), the Tochigi is the spirit of the Ouroboros' modern mentality of 'Through will alone'. Driven by a single high capacity DSE F-44/CCI-1 CFNR powerplant with two Alster Schiffsbaugesellschaft GmbH GE-119/M generators on standby to provide either battleshorting support or a fallback in event of the main reactor's failure, the onboard powerplant is able to drive the arrays of weapons systems aboard the Tochigi, providing devestating fires against threats at its' class, even against the venerable Liberty Interdictor-class Assault Battlecruiser.

However, as an Aviation Battlecruiser, it is intended to launch and support snubcraft in contact with enemy forces, and not operate alone, at especially against threats above its' weight class. Irregardless of this, the Tochigi is one of the few combat capable capital ships of Battlegroup Ouroboros' Utsunomiya Carrier Strike Group.

Systems

Powerplant

--Trusted from the 760s to 810s by the Liberty Navy, the Deep Space Engineering F-44/CCI-1 CFNR has been the beating heart of many Liberty Navy Battlecruisers and Battleships - driving 550GW of power across the 450 power rails that drive everything from astronics to the mess hall coffee machines. Its' retirement and subsequent leaking of the glut of maintenance manuals by a DSE employee by way of the Lane Hackers afforded anyone who could get their hands on one the ability to operate one of these miniature suns, either directly from DSE following Liberty's annulment of restrictions on the reactor to the civilian market - or through the litany of salvageable Liberty Navy ships that have been lost at the hands of the Marine Royale Gauloise in their tear through the Taus all the way to New London and California in the Gallic War.. at least those that haven't been seized upon by other parties wanting a piece of Liberty's hardware for themselves.

Supporting the Tochigi's main reactor is the Alster Schiffsbaugesellschaft GmbH GE-119/M Auxiliary MOX Generator, manufacturered exclusively for use in production hulls at Alster Shipyard. Whilst not as reliable as the Utsunomiya's Livadia generators, the GE-119/M's ease of maintenance helps keep downtime to a minimum, and the presence of two affords fallback in the event one fails. In Tandem, the two drive up to 340GW of power to ancillary systems, and can be operated in a battleshort fashion, providing additional power to weapons systems to sustain fire against enemy forces.

Propulsion

-- Half as old as Hanamura and nowhere near as alluring, four Deep Space Engineering KC440 Propulsion Drives, and four smaller KC440/As drive the bustard's conventional propulsion, allowing it to reach a miraculous 500m/s with cruise engines engaged. Built to withstand the harshest environments and sustained fire for adequate periods of time, the KC440 family of drives, along with its' accompanying array of 300 individual RCS thrusters, provides the hulking Tochigi the power needed to maneuver in peace, and at war.

Life Support and Amenities

--Keeping the Tochigi's crew breathing is a Canaria Biosciences 'Gaia'-class LSS suite, providing three hydroponics bays, one CO2 Rebreathing Converters and 3 Oxygen/CO2 Cycling Chambers. In reserves, 6 2.3kpsi Oxygen tanks are retained as an auxiliary, affording about two weeks of oxygen supply in an emergency. The aforementioned hydroponics bays are also linked up to the onboard water systems on the ship, affording crew fresh water and through advanced filtration and sanitation, conversion of waste water into fresh, clean water.

Amenities on the Tochigi pale in comparison to the Utsunomiya - nowhere to be found is a single vestige of luxury, where even on the Utsunomiya remnants of such do remain. Berthings for crew, a robust flight deck, large mess hall and various maintenance, operations, and other facilities aboard the Tochigi are what make up the spartan vessel.

Shield Generator

--No warship worth its' weight is without proactive defense systems, which in most circumstances come in the form of a shield system. For the Tochigi, this call is answered by Greif Positronics' G-330 Positron Shield Generator Array system, providing 73,000kJ of energy resistance, the G-330 is accompanied by a massive 390,000kJ capacitor bank, ready to be fired to revitalize the shields at a moment's notice.

As a warship, the Tochigi also hosts a competent and well-crewed DCC (Damage Control Center), with several DC Lockers across the ship's eight decks. Whilst these crews are equipped to deal with fires aboard and help keep the ship functioning in and out of battle, the Tochigi's ability to repair is limited outside of docks or moorings.

Sensors

-- The Tochigi's sensor suite is driven by a series of systems from Konigsberg Defense and Freiburg Systems.

Giving the Tochigi her eyes is the RK-44S Search Radar, known as the Anfang-ER - a common search-only sensor on ships belonging to non-state actors, due to an abundance of the systems on the black market from Rheinland Naval ships dating back to the Hudson War. Providing several modes, including Synthetic Aperture Radar functionality and a range of 18KSU, with the ability to track 7,200 individual targets, the Anfang-ER provides ample defense coverage for the Tochigi, with sufficient early warning against threats in open space.

Providing the various weapons systems with targeting functionality is the Freiburg T-339/AQ Euler and Konigsberg RK-59G Kirsche IRST Array and Fire Control Radars respectively.

Whilst the Euler IRST Targeting Array operates in the infrared spectrum, the burning heat of ship drives and other heat sources provide the high quality IR cameras that make up the Euler's arrays across the ship ample targeting data against ships in short range. Meanwhile, the Kirsche FCR provides dedicated targeting information for the Peltast-Ageira RK-23C Harpoon missiles aboard, giving them the long range guidance needed before terminal onboard guidance kicks on to counter CIWS fire and impact a target. However, both the Euler and Kirsche are designed to be co-redundant - in the event of one system's failure, the other can be utilized, however Harpoon fires launched on Euler tracks are reduced in range due to the limited range compared to the Kirsche.

Finally, the ship's defensive and anciliary sensors consist of 12 Freiburg T-10/D MAWS/TAWS arrays, providing warnings against missiles and torpedoes launched at ranges up to 15KSU, along with a single Ageira 803-CK9/A Approach Docking Guidance Radar.

Armament

--The Tochigi's complement of arms is enough to put concern on any formal naval captain's face, As unlike her civilian counterparts, the Tochigi is built to wage war, and in this, it excels superbly.

A primary flanking cannon, driven by the Samura Defense SD-01 Amaterasu, a Sunwreath-pattern Plasma Battery, drives the brunt of the Tochigi's offensive power, able to hit with force comparable to a volley of Overlord-class primary batteries in a single shot. However, this comes at the cost of high power utilization.

To complement the Amaterasu, two 35-canister VLS Cells of Peltast-Ageira RK-23C Harpoon AShM missiles allow the Tochigi to lob high speed anti-shipping missiles at her desired targets, which given ample screen against CIWS and flak batteries, can penetrate heavy armor and cause debilitating damage to ship subsystems and expose interior hulls to vaccum, especially against more vulnerable powerplants, such as those found on the Archer and Akhetaten-class cruiser and battlecruiser, respectively.

To provide secondary fires against her targets, the Tochigi brings two Peltast RK-67 Avalanche Cryo-Antimatter batteries, which are in turn accompanied by two Nurburg EMSB-3 'Schaudern' EMP batteries. Whilst the Schaudern's role is to expose raw hull to fires from the rest of the weapons aboard, the RK-67s complement fires from the Harpoons and Amaterasu cannon, providing constant fire for effect on enemy ships.

Finally, providing point defense is three Nurburg FP-11 'Fliegenklappe' Electro-Plasma Flak Batteries, which serve as ample point defense against munitions and snubcraft alike.

Armor

--Much like Utsunomiya, the Tochigi benefits from not one, but four feet of Carbon-Iridium-Titanium Crossweave armor, providing ample resistance to Plasma fires from hostile ships.

Snubcraft Complement

--The Tochigi is, even with the advanced armament aboard, an Aviation Battlecruiser at heart - its' role is not to fight alone, but to bring the brunt of force alongside snubcraft and sub-capitals.

The Tochigi serves in essence as the beating heart of the Kotetsu Fighter Brigade's Aerospace Arm, as the ship hosts 60 snubcraft, split evenly between aerospace superiority and anti-shipping (AShM) bombers.

To provide support for Ouroboros' infantry and special forces is 6 freighters, two VBSS-rated Rhinos, OCS Kuga (FVB-01) and OCS Manabe (FVB-02) - and four Troop Transport Dromedaries - OCS Yuudachi (FCT-01), OCS Karaage (FCT-02), OCS Hatorine (FCT-03) and OCS Cetus (FCT-04).

Acting as tenders for cargo and personnel to conclude the complement of snubcraft is the OCS Iridescence (FT-03) and the OCS Kiribati (FT-07).

Originally crewed as a combat vessel manned by remnants of the OCV Set, who defected to join Ouroboros during its' first era, the Skidbladnir, named after the Terran norse mythological ship of the same name is the faction's leading intelligence ship. Designed not for the frontlines, but to participate in aggressive psychological warfare, espionage and intelligence-gathering campaigns, Skidbladnir exploits the venerable Corvo platform in perverse fashion - twisting its' peaceful purposes and systems used for exploration into those of warfare across the physical and virtual battlespaces where intelligence is paramount. Following the return of Ouroboros, the Skidbladnir formed as the flagship of Sanzu DEVGRU, commanded by Sanzu's leader, former LSF operator Brett Kensington, who joined the ranks of the movement years before, under the command of former Hogosha member turned Ouroboros intelligence leader, Akira Kiyoshi.

The Skidbladnir has seen service as part of Task Force Shirikunne, where she temporarily saw command under Kotetsu Commander Jae-un Song, supporting the defense of Inverness. Later, brief excursions into the Sigmas saw the Skidbladnir contribute to intelligence and even direct warfare against snubcraft, which the ship was designed for, albeit in a defensive capacity.

As Ouroboros pivots back home to Kusari, her focus now is on Shikoku, the Libero-Kusari Borderworlds and Colorado, as it monitors the growing tensions between Liberty and Kusari, but is occasionally tasked to other operations throughout Sirius.

Systems

Powerplant

-- Driving the Skidbladnir's system is the Energence CM-130 Microfusion Nuclear Reactor, a 320GW Microfusion 'breeder'-type reactor, delivering power across the 17 power buses, grouping together 119 individual power rails on varying voltages and amperages. Manufactured by a Pennsylvania Zoner firm based on Erie, Energences' assets were seized by Liberty and given to Ageira, who have since started refusing service to enemies of Liberty - however, out of spite to Liberty, the firm's owners suicide-pilled their company shortly before Liberty's acquisition following their occupation of the former protectorate by disclosing design, maintenance and manufacture documents to the Lane Hackers, who in turn, disseminated them openly - ruining any hopes of Ageira being able to exploit the systems to their advantage. Today, non-black market Energence hardware is rare, with IMG, Canarian and Corsair corporations offering refined versions on the original design. The Skidbladnir is one of those few ships that still are driven by the long-defunct company's reactor.

Supporting the powerplant as a battleshorting and emergency power system, is a single Hemmel Energetics KI-330, providing 175GW of power. Whilst the system is enough to drive the propulsion, LSS and astrionics, it is barely enough to do little else in an emergency situation.

Propulsion

-- Pushing the ship through the stars is three of Livadia Shipbuilding's LCV-19/R drives, alongside standard issue LSS-driven pressurized oxygen RCS thrusters across the ship's hull. The very same drives used on the standard Corvo, these drives have seen little modification and managed to withstand the depths of space alongside the Utsunomiya, with ease - as would be expected of the venerable Corvo's survivability.

Life Support and Amenities

--Life Support is provided by an Ageira LifeSTAR A440 Hydroponics Suite, providing ample oxygen and water supply to the ship's crew. The system also provides fresh water and even fruits and vegetables for crew consumption, often accompanied by processed meat rations stowed in the mess hall freezer.

On the topic of Amenities, the star of the show is the massive Strategic Information Fusion Center (SIFC), a large CIC-like command center of the ship that is seperate from the main CIC. Designed to process and assess information with high accuracy and efficiency, the SIFC is manned by a sizable amount of Ouroboros' remaining intelligence personnel who were not otherwise assigned off-station duties. The SIFC gets information via the Ouroboros Intranet also known as Kamuymosir, which doubles as the backbone for the faction's datalinked sensor infrastructure. Capable of combining and processing sensor data from over 25,000 sources - both factional and OSINT in origin - in real-time, the SIFC's systems serve as part of the faction's central nervous system, collecting intelligence from said sensors to provide accurate force projection, weapons capability, target identification and threat assessment, as well as collect passive SIGINT and MASINT on targets.

The technology behind this was originally part of a suite of systems scoured across several Libertonian and Bretonian intelligence vessels lost in the war between Liberty and Gallia, which were repurposed and configured by then Supreme Commander-adjutant Mieko Iekahara to fufill the battlegroup's more ambitious predecessor's needs, a project funded primarily by the washing of funds from Starcat Holdings to Ouroboros. Even with the downsizing of Ouroboros in its' reprisal, the Skidbladnir's SIFC plays a vital role in the faction's intelligence capability, affording it the ability to aggressively act against targets of opportunity in situations that may be otherwise be risky.

Beyond the SIFC, little else for amenities exists beyond the basics - sufficient berthing for officers and crew, Damage Control Lockers across the ship along with a spartan mess hall that the Seraphine's and Utsunomiya's makes look like a small dining room by comparison - and shared bathing and toiletry facilities. Even the ship's dedicated CIC is very small and not much to write about, as the ship was not designed to be engaged on the frontlines, but rather compliment the Utsunomiya, supporting its' C3BM capaibilities with CISR (Computing, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) roles either deep behind enemy lines, or well away from the front.

Shield Generator

--Providing the first line of defense for the Skidbladnir is Alpite Defense's L-40 Block 20 "Bastion" Molecular Heavy Gunboat Shield Generator. Derived from variants of the original Bastion that entered into service around the start of the 820s, the Block 20 is hardened against plasma and particulate fire, which provides ample defense against most snubcraft fires, excluding explosive armament and pulse weaponry which would primarily only be effect in the hands of either bombers, or very capable strike fighter pilots, such as those piloting the Claymore-class or Falchion-class fighters.

Sensors

--

The Skidbladnir, with all respect to the hard work of Major Alexei Miranov and his engineers and technicians, is an exercise in 'How many sensors across every imaginable spectrum, can we strap to a Corvo?'. The Skidbladnir, within the varying ranges of its' sensors, at least in their mean sensor range, is like that of a demigod - if it sees you, it likely will know everything about you in short order - even if you're using an electro-optical warfare system.

Driving the weapons systems, is a dual set of radar sensors, being an Apexa Astrionics Corporation A-50 'Sentry' Search/SAR Radar and accompanying Konigsberg Defense RK-59R 'Kirsche-R' Fire Control/Hi-Res SAR Radar. Whilst most radars come with Synthetic Aperture functionality, The Skidbladnir's Fire Control Radar is designed for SAR functionality, being a variant of the Kirsche in use onboard the Tochigi, with support for K and Ku-band modes to provide higher resolution imagery. Now, some may posit, why not use a camera instead? SAR technology dates back centuries, back to before the formation of the Alliance - allowing for the use of radars to generate 2D images, and 3D models of their field of view, hence the term, synthetic aperture - it generates a visual representation of an object without being on the visual spectrum. By employing SAR, this allows Skidbladnir to traverse low-visibility and hazardous environments with ease, and navigate minefields without risk for collision, sensing them miles ahead of the ship, even with the lower-powered Sentry search radar's SAR mode.

Complementing the radars are the IMG TDL-110 Nuptse IRST Array, a series of infrared search and track cameras, that whilst seeing some use in MASINT for identifying and assessing heat signatures, are primarily used to provide auxiliary guidance to the VLS-mounted Silencer missiles. The reasoning for this, is that those using lower-end MLWS systems will not recieve a missile launch warning if the radars are not used aboard, causing enemy ships to risk being obliterated by Silencer fires, especially as part of an ambush. As is the nature of infrared guidance.

Furthermore, on the Visual and Infrared Spectrum, is the Ageira AN/SAL-55 'Aphid' LIDAR Sensor Array. Whilst the radars can reach farther out, the resolution provided by LIDAR is unparalleled, even on older Hudson War era LIDAR systems like the Aphid. With a sub-centimeter resolution, and a range of around 1,000m, the Aphid provides the Skidbladnir further sensory capability, such as undertaking damage assessments of ship wreckages, assessment of small structures in space, and getting accurate images of targets close enough for sensor capture.

Concluding the visual spectrum of Skidbladnir's sensor buffet is eight Ageira AN/SAQ-95 'Stella' Electro-Optical Targeting and Surveillance (EOTS) cameras mounted across the ship. Featuring laser range-finding, Night, Thermal, Radiation and EM vision, the series of cameras are hardened against battle damage, and provide augmented reality support for helmsmen and fire control officers aboard the Skidbladnir, allowing them to see *around* the ship and control weapons and navigation more directly if needed. Combined with neural-network augmented zoom functionality that allows for high resolution imagery with accuracy guaranteed at 99% of targets within the same solar system - the Stella arrays provide sensory capabilities that 20 years separated from its' debut, still manages to keep up for the most part with modern House offerings. Whether this is a testament to Ageira's complacency or the stale nature of the defense industry in recent years outside of Liberty pulling the Akhetaten out of their ass is anyone's guess.

Moving on to the Skidbladnir's passive sensors, is the Accenco Systems DF-11 EMF Sensor Array. Effectively a series of amplified antennae that are hooked up to individual tuners, the DF-11 provides a modest ability to intercept, spoof, record and replay signals across the electromagnetic spectrum. This means that everything from neural net transmissions and gate access codes, to weapons radar and datalinked traffic on enemy battlenets can be exploited in a variety of ways. However, this is limited by the reality that, outside of unencrypted traffic, signals must be decrypted, and optionally, re-encrypted onboard the Skidbladnir to be used against their target - and as such, outside of a self-defense jammer role, it rarely sees use in direct conflict.

Albeit less important, the Scarborough Radionics V30/9C Advanced Radiation sensor, and twin Apexa Astrionics A-43 Gravimetric sensors provide more passive protective and MASINT capabilities to the Skidbladnir's swiss army knife of sensors. Both sensors provide gravimetric and radiation measurements to allow for high-level assessment of magnetic fields and radiation sources. Finally for EM sensors, a series of Accenco Systems DF-9/R Passive Radar Analysis antennas provide anti-radiation (in regards to radar-based illuminating radiation) capability, and also further support the DF-11's ability to jam radars using DRFM (Digital Radio Frequency Memory) attacks, which can confuse radars on snubcraft and weapons guidance.

Nearing the end of the intelligence-related sensors aboard the Skidbladnir is the Planetform Systems Ltd CQ-19 Particle Collection Panel Array, a series of specialized of absorbent particulate collector panels around the ship's exterior that can make assessments of environmental conditions in nebulae, atmosphere and even assess chemical emissions in vaccum by enemy vessels or installations.

Wrapping up the amalgam of sensors aboard is the Trexis Quantum Computing ARAPSS "Augur" Active Quantum Field Probing Array, one of many OEM-compliant variants of the same sensor mounted on nearly all Corvos in service, from the Skidbladnir in service with Ouroboros, to those in use by the well-regarded Starfliers organization. Designed originally for examining Baxter Objects, the ARAPSS has been augmented to make indepth analysis of more intelligence-related endeavors feasible, allowing for low-level assessments of existing sensor data by corroborating more conventional data recordings with their quantum counterparts, recorded at the same time - providing in-depth analysis of what more may be able to be known from these sources.

Armament

--

Whilst one would say Skidbladnir is all brains, this isn't necessarily true. In fact, at least against snubcraft, the Skidbladnir can hold its' own.

Four Ageira Defense GAU-48 Solaris-pattern Close-in Weapons System batteries unleash pure hellfire upon any unlucky snubcraft that gets too close to the ship -- and additionally, provides anti-torpedo defense measures at standoff ranges. Complementing the CIWS batteries is a whopping 350 Zoner Arms Corporation RIM-149 'Silencer'-compatible SSbM Quad-VLS Cells, arranged along the wings and bow of the Skidbladnir. The RIM-149 is a devestatingly powerful anti-snubcraft missile system, which launches four missiles at once from a single VLS cell, unleashing Semi-Active Radar (or IRST guided for stealth attacks) guided missile vollies at targets that can kill unshielded snubcraft in a single volley.

The employment of Silencers became recommended combat doctrine for sub-cruiser capitals in Anti-snubcraft roles in Ouroboros' fleet from the outset, inspired by its' employment by the Auxesian gunboat ACV Predator, which had a high success rate during the Defense of Port Carthage. Already in this role, the Skidbladnir in lighter albeit offensive engagements as part of Task Force Shirikunne, has caused the loss of several LSF operatives during Operation Chinita-Raii.

However, as a last resort against capitals of the same grade, or in support of attacks on larger ones, the Peltast Arms FG-11 'Annihilator' Anti-capital MLRS Battery installed to the fore of the ship as a forward attack battery, can deliver massive damage to unshielded Gunboats, Frigates and even Cruisers, in tandem with Silencer fires - or if desperate enough, use of the CIWS batteries to pelt the enemy ship with fires.

Finally, to scare off pursuers, the Peltast Arms GM-3 'Ravager'-pattern Mine Dispenser releases high yield EMP-generating mines, capable of dealing debilitating damage to snubcraft and crippling larger ships not hardened against such weapons. This can be followed up with Silencer fires, that can if not evaded, spell certain death for pursuing snubcraft, or even smaller gunboats.

Armor

-- Unlike the more expensive CITX armor used on larger ships in the Ouroboros fleet, the older yet comparable CCNX (Chromium / Cobalt / Nickel Crossweave) armor affords the Skidbladnir well-rounded shielding against attacks on the ship's hull and superstructure in its' class.

The Sar'ush-subclass of Dromedaries, as much as they sound like a nomad warform name, comes from the terrain Ainu term for 'having a tail'. A fitting term, for a ship that would be intended to tail, disable propulsion on and then board enemy ships through their airlocks to either detain or at worst, kill the crew aboard and capture the ship for the faction's purposes. Kishiro transport pilots unlucky enough to come across these ships and live to tell the tale have come to give them their own 'reporting name' - Hiru -- leeches. As of this writing, there exist 6 Sar'ush-subclass Cutters, the Kuga, Manabe, Ikuni, Saga, Furude and the Runitai.

The concept of utilizing VBSS tactics by Ouroboros was undertaken near the tail end of the faction's time in the Sigmas, feeling it could be an effective way to capture transports belonging to the Keiretsu, oft seen traversing the Sigma trade corridor between Kusari and Rheinland. Whilst the time in the sigmas was short afterwards for unrelated reasons, the doctrine continued in the 830s, as purchase and modification of the Dromedary-class ships that would become the Saga, Furude and Runitai would continue the faction's secondary piracy and combat vessel seizure missions, as well as being used in a tertiary role for Combat Search and Rescue, with the marines onboard trained not just in VBSS actions, but able to render aid to civilians and help with light damage control.

Built and maintained within the maintenance flight decks of the OCS Tochigi today, the ships are modified to carry troops for VBSS actions, and also provide room for up to 50 more for CSAR actions. However these ships are not intended to ferry survivors from ailing ships, but instead, accompany larger ships like the Mendicant Didact, or general purpose transports which can be quickly refitted in an emergency to extract survivors in ailing ships. Whilst Freighters are oft considered as Snubcraft, Ouroboros Naval doctrine exempts them, treating them as 'Anciilary Light Capital Vessels' or ALCVs - usually relegated to support roles.

The Sar'ush-subclass represents the willingness of Ouroboros to steal to both send a message, and to thrive as a paramilitary - and in peace or with allies, the dedication and determination to the core values of the movement - to protect the innocent, and uphold freedom, justice and human dignity.

Systems

Powerplant & Propulsion

--
The Peltast Engineering PTE-9-K Small Scale Fusion Motor MkI, more properly its' K-variant, is a blackmarket modification made by Ouroboros to reinforce the pre-existing AIO powerplant/propulsion system that comes pre-installed on the Barrier Shipbuilding Series D Freighters. Designed to push many of Barrier and CTE's ships through the sector with affordable reliability, the PTE-9 family of drives can out-perform any capital-grade ship on the market, all the while being able to cut engines to launch its' CD89b Cruise Disruption missiles to disable the onboard propulsion of enemy ships, in quick succession before quickly powering up the cruise engines again to catch up to its' victims if well out of range. The motor also drives heated exhaust for the RCS systems aboard, providing rapid manuverability, some of the best in the fleet.

Life Support

--Life Support is provided by a simple Oxygen tank onboard the vessel with a basic rebreather configuration. This allows for approximately 72 Hours of breathable oxygen assuming a full crew, and no atmospheric leaks that are not otherwise sealed. Beyond this, there is limited water supply onboard. The Sa'rash-subclass of vessels, like all Freighters or, if going by greater Sirian standards, Snubcraft in general, save a rare few like the CTE Spatial, are not intended for long-term deployments away from bases or motherships.

Shield Generator

--The Sa'rash-subclass of vessels is protected by a Molecular Shield Generator, namely the Alpite Defense L-10 "Guardian". From the same L-series shield family as those on the Skidbladnir, the Alpite provides modest protection against snubcraft fires, but breaks under anything larger. As such, Ouroboros VBSS doctrine dictates the use of evasive maneuvers, blind spots, and escort bombers to engage and disable an enemy ship before commencing VBSS actions.

Sensors

--

The primary sensor, other than the standard issue Freiberg Defense MAWS/TAWS array that sees common use in the Ouroboros fleet, is the Ageira AR-303 'Galant' Search and Track Radar. Providing the ability for deep penetration into ship hulls to assess threats within, and give boarding parties early warning against any response teams moving into position, the AR-303 is ample enough for this, as well as to protect the ship by directing weapons systems to fire enemy contacts.

Armament

--

Providing defense for the Sar'ush-subclass is an array of Heavy Flashpoint turrents and gimballed cannons, capable of both supporting troops in combat by blasting out specific blocks full of hostiles in coordination with forces onboard a ship, or engaging snubcraft interfering with VBSS or CSAR operations.

Armor

-- The Sar'ush-subclass is reinforced with 3 feet of CITX armor, which makes the ship somewhat more sluggish than its' stock Dromedary counterpart, but otherwise provides sturdier protection from fires.
