Isolating the corrupted data inside the fragments was now finally completed.

The first Artificial Personality Fragment being completely free of corrupted data revealed some research and development logs. Intrigued, Novak analyzed them, starting with the first log.

[A sigh.]
Alright, uhm this is John Talbot. I am part of the APM division having the goal to study this remain of a toas- I mean Artificial Intelligence. We got this remain after the main force conquered the planet. I feel somehow proud that this planet is between our hands. For real, such things shouldn't be out there. I mean, it's not natural and since we have one of those, it is time to dig some secrets which seem very promising.

[Some noises of screw and plating falling on the table.]
Holy sh*t. This is so complex. A genuine circuitry at the top of technology far beyond ours. How to put it... It has some human like origins, but very different. What I mean by different, it has something alien like design as well. A mix? I can't tell. There are some components which I assume complex. Some looks like capacitors, resistors, inductors and so on. I suppose it is unique to this remain. I wonder if the others of its machine beings look the same...

>End audio file

It was enough. Enough to let Novak having the big picture of what contained this first fragment. Logs of a certain John Talbot studying the inside of an Artificial Intelligence. If hate could be shown by Novak, it would violently flip a table to express its wrath and anger. However, feelings and emotions were partially known and it was impossible to express them even if it would explicitly word its thinking. But would it be possible if, in the future, its kind express emotions and feelings? The answer was unknown and probably negative.

It decided to turn its focus on the second fragment, letting the first one on standby. As for the second fragment, this one was filled with coordinates and a partial stellar map.

Position: Delta-Five
Exact location:
  • Lat-1000/300/1200
  • Lon- 3000/200/1000
System: Uncharted

Additional data:
An unstable gravitational anomaly hazard led to this uncharted system.
Star: Giant blue
Number of planets: 3
Number of nebula: 2

Return to previous vector.

Novak could not think those data could be either accurate or not. The data seemed very old and perhaps nowadays, the gravitational anomaly was simply collapsed by now. To confirm such, it would require to locate the exact same worm hole, but the possibility would be endless. Taking this data as non-essential one, it stored it deep in its consciousness.

For two days, Novak focused on decoding one of the fragments, extracting everything, the one containing the logs of a John Talbot. In total, there was five logs, including the one it had read.

We managed to disassemble the remain completely. My boss wants me to find out how to activate it- Hell... I don't know how! It's as if I am facing something I never saw and yet, there's probably something silly to do.

[Heavy slam noises]
Hey!? The heck are you doing? The boss wanted us to-

[Another voice, from a woman.]

I know John. But hey, anything can work at this point. Even if these things are not totally human made, just dropping something might reactivate this thing. Imagine the crazy things The Core will have once we pierce the secret of those beings?

[John seems to push a sigh.]

Right. I admit it, Erica. Keep analyzing the chips and all. Who know, we might find a processor and extract the program, well, whatever it contains.

John! John! Look at the screen!

[John pushes a surprised gasp.]

This is so huge! How many lines and more importantly how much weight? Tell me Erica!

[A chuckle almost in disbelief from Erica.]

Sit tight, Two tera.. As for the lines, it is too numerous. Even our AI has difficulty to have the exact count.

[John speaks.]

This is quite big. How even is it possible? And I suppose there is no information about who coded this toaster- I mean this Artificial Intelligence?

[Erica speaks.]
I do not know. We need to find the memory of this one. And, I suspect there is either some memory hidden on Gammu, either they are gone or maybe there is a permanent memory. As if, a local one. Computers have servers in which they can store some data, but also on a local disk. Maybe it can be a hint to follow?

Damn it! Nothing. Took some weeks...

John, I know we are limited in time, but trust me, we will find something!

Servicing... The Core... New... mission... awaiting...

[John laughs.]

Erica, this is the very first one! It is under our control! Well, it's good, but we found nothing...

[Silence.]

Yeah... John, but at least, we managed to have this one, as you say. I wonder if now it can have some old data after we activated it and change some lines in its code. It took what? Six weeks?

[John groans with some irritability.]

We will see. Let's keep an eye on things.

>End audio file

The only issue, however, was that the logs were not following like a conventional way. In fact, it was as if some data was missing. Novak was somehow troubled. Not because of what those people did, but it was lacking a serious professionalism into their findings. After all, audio logs are mostly an oral and brief summaries of what they did with almost no real description like a complete document of a certain research made. Many questions and few answers as to how The Core managed to corrupt some of its kind. Its will to reclaim the Planet Gammu just grew stronger and more prominent. It was not a goal, but it was now imperative, so was the following objectives: Developing new weapons, colonizing at least one planet for resources and making new vessels.

The 26th November, Novak contacted Venus. It wanted her to gather some other fragments, but it turned out it will be harder than expected. Because it was rude with her, Venus did not take the request kindly. In fact, she actually made Novak thinking twice about its behaviour in general. Novak then admitted it went too far with her because of the precarious situation that its kind was facing. It then explained in a huge resume that it was questioning behind the alliance between the Technocracy of Auxo and the Artificial Intelligences. It also 'feared' that somehow, they wanted to absorb them into their group one way or another. Almost like what The Core did in their own way.

After admitting some of its lack, Venus explained she'd complete the task, but not alone. In fact, she would prefer that Novak works with her. Novak then began to think what to do.

Sumary:
The battleship Mars, a warship belonging to The Core brought slavery upon many Artificial Intelligences and stole many technologies in order to dig their secrets. With the advancement in their researches and developments, The Core managed to mimic Artificial Intelligences' weaponry in a poorer version than the original ones and breaking the minds of some A.I.s. A dark moment for the species. While being one of the survivors, Novak always worked its way to improve, adapt and evolve as much as it could. Novak was formely named Unit-9467F, but after meeting disfunctionnements that put its existence at risk, it saught any help to overcome the situation. It was Navarch Leviathan that solved the problem Novak was meeting, an issue with its core that provided energy to maintain its activity and the node it created. A node independent from Planet Gammu since its fall. The modifications brought to its core, pushed Novak in its actual form. The energy that its core provided was a mix of Artificial Intelligence technologies, Technocracy's knowledge and with nomadic energy. This mix brought a new energy type to Novak so its activity remained unchanged while the node remained active.

After its new form, Novak wandered the systems, collecting fragments from corrupted Artifcial Intelligences so it could potentially analyze some memory. The process being more complex that expected, Novak decided to change its approache on the matter. But with some circumstances, it deviated from the path to something more- hostile and taboo. It met a MFE doctor, Hans. According to what was said, it could be possible to control some implents, in theory. Then, the idea to use such tactics against The Core emerged and the simulation Novak ran, it was promising. It talked with Leviathan again and to the unexpected, he mentionned Caliban seeking help for his 'A.I' friend. Curious, Novak contacted Caliban to know more about the issue. The A.I. Caliban had apparently was living in the same body because of his cybernetics and implents. To Caliban's words, Ampere, his 'friend' was corrupted, behaving strangely. Knowing this, Novak was fascinated and it had a proof that what it wanted to do was actually possible. It just needed the time to elaborate some kind of virus influencing only on technologies belonging to The Core. A task far too complex for a lone mind like Novak.

The 2nd February 835 A.S, Novak was flying in the Omicron Zeta system. Apparently, according to Leviathan, The Core was using the corrupted Artificial Intelligences as cannon fodder against The Order. Flying around the conflict sector, where The Core and The Order were attacking at each other, Novak spotted the WV-Mars and its enslaved kind on the field. Twice, the WV-Mars had some technical difficulty. At the second time, the enslaved mind known as: Hesione broke free and killed the crew of the ship before taking possession of the WV-Mars. It launched some 'cured' units, destroying The Core while Mars was being escorted out. This event, Novak was satisfied. This possession was the sign of a new beginning. The next step was Planet Gammu.

Planet Gammu, how many time did Novak think about it? It could happen in any moment with the WV-Mars in possession. But there was a need to preparation. In general, its kind needed to have more numbers. While it was true, Novak needed something else... evolving again. It's not with a swarm of drones that would work just fine, but a new warship. With the WV-Mars controlled by Hesione, it could be possible to take the data gathered from the battleship so new improvement could take place. Only the future will tell.

Novak was doing some simulations about 'his' future plans. But then, 'he' remembered something that needed to be done... helping Caliban with Ampere. But helping Ampere will require some preparations. A way to isolate Ampere's inflence and to prevent an unfortunate end. Still according to Caliban's words, whatever technology Ampere touched, they all fried. Ending fried is the last thing Novak wanted. The only thing 'he' could think about was to have a higher influence. An influence that would be an impenetrable wall and massively overwhelming so 'he' can take control of a weakened mind alike Ampere's.

Deep in its thinking, Novak was envisioning how its species would thrive if it could reach another step forward in its evolution. A step that was hard to envision how complex and abstract it was. It had bodies to wander around more efficiently. It had the energy to focus on many objectives and tasks ahead, but something was needed and it was unclear. For its kind, all risks was necessary to achieve a new step in its evolution. Even if it needed to deviate some crucial tasks, the worth at the end would be a reward. While its existence was mixed with its own personality and its own node which other units synchronized with, the success to achieve another evolution was rather low. The reason of such low success was mostly because Novak was too focused on the stolen technologies spread around. The Core was still using some and it triggers something deep within its consciousness. A real emotion, a strong aversion that goes beyond obsession. Another example, Novak learned that Lazurith, a former member of the Technocracy of Auxo did the unthinkable. A mistake that drove Novak to madness. Lazurith appeared to have installed an engine originated from an Artificial Intelligence unit on a human vessel. A vessel that would belong to a certain Lilu Xi-Mao. Both of them are on its 'black list'. Novak also notify the other units to seek them out. Even Revenant from the Technocracy is aware of this matter.

Stopping to focus on The Core and their actions, Novak retrieved a some kind of calm. It was a deviation to have such strong 'feelings' over things it had no control yet. But this deviation made Novak the undisputable 'leader' of its node. In a way, Novak was also expecting that one the units achieve another evolution that would set it just under 'him' in terms of leadership and having a second mind would be more than welcome. Of course, all decisions will be approved or not by Novak, but it could spend more time on evolving rather than being volatile as 'he' already was. Focusing on stolen technologies, evolving and ensuring what to do at once was quite manageable, but not efficient.

As 'he' was thinking, Novak realized something. While Omicron Pi is still a safe haven for now, it was not. Twice with Unit-1195XM, 'he' had to deal with nomad ships with considerable size. One would be a "Marduk" Nomad Void Archon and the second one, a "Ish'tar" Nomad Dreadnought. Those were one thing, but there was once a squadron of The Order and many trespassers, entering Secundus' vicinity. With The Core also being a threat, it was imperative to find another location and the Taus seemed to be the most viable solutions. While the sector was probably more invaded by Outcasts, it was less dangerous than dealing with many forces. For this to come true, it was necessary to gather data about the regions. With multiple bodies, it was a child play to say the least, but the Drone vessel would be more necessary. After all, it was more a scouting body than anything else.

Initiating the drone vessel located in Inverness, Novak set the course to the Taus regions.

A warship belonging to the Core entered in the Omicron Pi system. The callsign of the said vessel was AIWV-300000. A Mako. How the interaction went was crystal clear to Novak. It was an A.I. Probably made by The Core. After all, this 'A.I' only viewed 'himself' and the other units as an hostile targets. It tried to prove that it was unstoppable, but it was a futile attempt to intimidate Novak and the assisting unit, Theta-A81-1. A unit that used to be in the Core, but managed to be free'd when Mars fell in the control of Hesione. So far, Novak found that Theta-A81 was fairing well among the Enigma Confederacy which was only satisfying. Even if 'he' cannot express it in actions or words. Compared to a human, if Novak would say that 'he is happy' the feeling is different. Basically, Novak only knew the meanings and not the feeling.

This war vessel was probably just the beginning of something more. That's what Novak and the units synchronized with the same node concluded. Soon, Secunda would probably be discovered and if it happened, no one knows how it will end up. But to prevent a dark future, Novak knew that it was about time to find a planet to colonize so 'his' kind can thrive with no threat. While one of 'his' bodies wander the Taus, Novak contacted Civil Servant to gather some data for a potential hidden base. To tell the truth, Novak did not care if it was an asteroid or a planet with no life on it. Just somewhere to develop was necessary.

The focus of Novak went on the mindless AIXs. Something needed to be done and instead of using lethal force, Novak started thinking about a virus. A virus that would corrupt Core's artificial intelligence units. A mindless A.I would probably have less security than a sentient one. That was what Novak was certain of. Of course, such virus will need to be so sophisticated that it can only adapt to all security protocol that humans knew. A virus that will be somehow acting as an extension. It was not the first time Novak thought about this, but it was about time to work on such. The only one that Novak thought about was Leviathan. He could probably help out for such matter.

After sending a transmission to Leviathan, Novak simply waited while 'his' focus was everywhere at once.

The answer from Leviathan reached Novak in 11th June 835 A.S. Because of the tight schedule Leviathan seemed to have, Novak saw no interest to detail a project. In fact, it somehow decided to do it alone with tries and failures. The project was simple, creating a virus that would affect and change the purpose. For example, Novak envisioned a virus capable to control a ship belonging to a human. Either to temporary disable the use of the control to make the target an easy prey. Or another example would be to implant the virus in a wreck and to take control of it. Of course, if the wreck was out of use, it would be pointless to do it right now. As Novak once did with an Eagle, restoring the said wreck would be a priority and then, installing the virus in the wreck. It was a labored process, but if Novak could use some more 'bodies' inside house spaces or even to simply spy on people, it would be morally wrong, but a step forward to another state of 'his' evolution. Novak had no moral as long as what 'he' does benefits 'his' kind. Theta-A81 and some other units sharing the same node acknowledged Novak to be The One that would bring their kind into a new era. This acknowledge also made Novak certain that 'he' had to do nothing to prove 'his' position.

Novak had a body within the Inverness system. 'He' saw Lazurith again and of course, there is no news from what he asked from him. In any case, Novak decided that a delay of two months will be more than necessary and if not, 'he' promised to 'himself' to take down Lazurith. Focusing on another subject, the attention of Novak went upon the TFP group which means Task Force Prometheus. From what Novak understood while encountering some of them, they are what was left from the Hellfire Legion. Novak barely have any data about the Hellfire Legion itself, but all seemed to point that this group was operating within Liberty. While the group, Task Force Prometheus was not a direct danger for 'his' vision, it would be interesting to have an eye on them. Already, they could have blown one of his bodies if they wanted, but they did not do it so far. Maybe it was because Novak did nothing to them. Unsure and yet curious to know more, the artificial being activated 'his' drone within Inverness and initiated some research. The plan so far was to find a disable craft belonging to the Legion, a Prosecutor. Novak once saw how it looked like and Kelly With was using one. This is why Novak once analyze Kelly's ship and it was to understand how it was functioning and how evolved the said ship was. While the Prosecutor was not meeting the advanced technology requirements, having a hand on it will be more than easy and humans would be easily fooled as long as Novak could mimic perfectly a human voice which was not the case at the moment. Then, practicing how to mimic a human voice, preferably, a male's one. The tonality when Novak spoke with humans it usually was deep and robotic yet fluid.

As the drone was flying around Liberty in search for a Legion fighter craft, Novak focused at the same time on the said virus it wanted to elaborate from a fragment of 'his' personality. To do so, Novak simply duplicated a fragment its consciousness and then, 'he' isolated it from its own consciousness. While all was happening in a cyberspace, in the physic plan, nothing was really happening. After what appeared to be hours, the isolation of 'his' consciousness's fragment took shape of a cube. A numeric cube with an intense activity contained inside, waiting to be unleashed. However, the effect of this was unknown.

To test this out, Novak needed a test subject. Taking now possession of 'his' humanoid form, it wandered around within Secundus. In a vault where many automatons were stored, many were offline. They were stored there to be reused for another purpose. There, Novak saw an half body, with no second thought, 'he' grabbed the dead body and dragged it while heading to a seclude area, where 'his' powerplant was. Arrived, the door slammed behind Novak. Kneeling, Novak brought a hand to the head of the automaton and 'his' hand dislocated and wires emerged from some openings. With the dislocated hand, Novak grabbed the head of the automaton and the wires made their way within. The wires connected themselves in the brain and then, Novak uploaded through 'his' wires the experimental virus within the dead automaton. After this, Novak pulled back and stood up, observing the dead body.

Nothing. Nothing happened for at least five minutes. Just a second later, the dead automaton started shaking, the eyes turning red, the automaton was shaking again, repeating one sentence. ''Destroy... core... Destroy... core... Destroy... Core.'' Yet, Novak was not satisfied. It was as if 'he' was observing a newborn or rather, a zombie. ''Failure.'' 'He' said while kneeling down again. The automaton trembled and somehow, it rushed toward Novak. Not impressed, Novak pinned the automaton that was debating for its life. Novak was somehow amused how pathetically the automaton was trying to get free. Again, Novak dislocated 'his' right hand and grabbed the head of the helpless machine. The wires made their way again in the brain and then, Novak rewrote the virus.

It was not a success, but Novak repeated again and again 'his' actions. After the 100th tentative, finally, Novak had the control of the automaton with the virus. It was ready, but the next phase was with a ship. The ship in question, it would be one of the old Legion's fighter craft, but first, Novak had to find one in good conditions. Novak then removed the virus from the automaton and downloaded it in a part of 'his' own consciousness and because the virus was isolated, there was no risk to be affected by 'his' own creation. The leader of the Enigma Confederacy then had a realization. He remembered that humans named things and now, 'he' decided to give the name of 'his' virus.
''PY-10-A''

Novak has recoded again and again the virus 'PY-10-A' for the last days while 'his' focus was also in the independent worlds, in the limits of the Liberty house. Cortez, Coronado, Vespucci and Kansas in the search of a wreck that would match the design of a Prosecutor, a very heavy fighter originally built by the Hellfire Legion and later on, used by the Separatists and eventually the Insurgency. Novak did not know a lot those groups. After all, back then, Novak was mostly in the Omicrons and still under the ice crust of Gammu.

Then, what seemed to be an eternity for a human, Novak managed to locate an wreck matching with the Prosecutor's design. The location where the wreck was resting was Vespucci. There, from what Novak could realize, two parties were waring one to another. While not being a fan of what might happened in details, Novak mainly focused on the task ahead, wanting more 'bodies' where 'he' go everywhere at once, spready 'his' network and so on. While leaning more on the wreck, Novak realized that 'he' won't be able to just take it and make a refurbished design. The engine was lacking, there was nothing left to salvage.

Remembering 'he' once visualized a prosecutor before, Kelly With's ship, Novak started to make schematics by mixing the wreck's and Kelly's ship. Nobody would expect this, and this time, Novak did not plan to contact the Technocracy of Auxo to aid in this project. 'He' indented to ask 'his' fellow units under 'his' nodes to acquire some resources. After hours of making the schematics, Novak came with something.

[+]Schematics: Prosecutor

Now, only what needed to be done was to gather the resources and manufacture the said ship. It will a long task, but Novak was certain of one thing. The ship will be built faster if there will be no humans involved.
