As per instructions from those in command, our carrier was deployed for more than one purpose in that war-torn hellhole. Not my place to complain, orders are orders. Still…. Could have given us a more coherent group to work with. This so-called “Noth Squadron” are a handful to deal with, and not the most eloquent with respect. Though it must be conceded that their combat prowess is not to be argued with; they are good pilots, and they did their job well.
Lindwurm sustained some minor damage in the field, on account to several skirmishes during wreckage collection. Luckily, we tangled with another carrier of similar design. Some sections of their intact plating have been taken for repairs, to be conducted when we reach Kaarst. Better to have the job done properly, especially now Bretonia’s like a kicked hornets nest. Alot of what has been picked up is, unsurprisingly, never going to fly again but some vessels have been recovered in mostly-intact condition. Overview of total recovered salvage has been copied from the Squadron’s debriefing report and attached to this log for record keeping.
As there are some vessels that may be usable, there’s listed overviews of their condition, possible maintenance repair options for use by our own, or possibly command’s use.
XKR-EV-ZERO "Storm" Class Gunboat:
This Storm class Gunboat was recovered after its crew ejected. Our maintenance crew surmise they received a false positive for a reactor breach and abandoned ship in accordance with the alert. Starboard engines are completely destroyed, but port engines remain in enough of a good condition to potentially reverse engineer them, with the help of Coalition engineers.
We are of the belief that the destruction of the starboard engine is the cause for the systems malfunction, as it seems that during the severance, some of the relays between the reactor lines and the engines fused. Had the engine still been connected, it would have overloaded the ships internal systems, as well as destabilise the fusion core. Likely the vessel would not have survived had it come to pass, nor the crew.
As a precaution, the reactor and life support systems have been disabled and contained. Ion storms along the route to return to Omegas are a reputable threat to core destabilisation in damaged vessels, and their subsequent detonation.
The repairs are too complex to be conducted with what we have available here in Dublin, and I don’t think the Coalition would be too pleased with us requesting the materials to repair it out here, either. Kaarst crews will know what to do with the maintenance.
ABF-1 Harrier:
First observations of this salvage have shown that the cockpit shattered, pulling the pilot out through the vast change in pressure. Likely dead, their seat straps were not functioning correctly. the command console has been all but destroyed, the various systems still seem to function internally but have yet to be accessed.
Port wing has been completely ripped off, assuming from a collision with a larger warship rather than weapons fire: The reinforced alloy looks torn more than burnt. Repair maintenance could be possible, Mollys may be willing to lend a hand through Noth Squadron with this one. It appears to be an older version than some of those seen in Dublin flown by other pilots.
Stockton may have supplies as an alternative to repair this vessel. Patrols from the depot may have salvaged a few of these vessels themselves and may be worth contacting to offer a trade.
Z-9000 Barghest:
Despite two of these being recovered, only one is in good enough condition to repair and use. Spare parts are salvageable from the other wreckage picked up, although caution is advised.
Starboard plating has been torn away by what appears to be Battleship calibre weapons fire on the more intact vessel. It is also stripped of most weaponry. It has power, but has no pilot response. Flight control may be locked out, or possibly severed in the impact. Either way, the internals need a good cleanup.
Shield systems are disconnected from the power relays and the gun fuses are welded to the hull. They will need a full rebuild and compatibility check, as this issue is likely caused by its previous owner jury rigging higher calibre guns on the mounting brackets than should ever be considered.
B-907 Crusader:
This one's a simple case of there being enough spare parts off of the salvaged vessels to make a complete package. Between the five ex-fightercraft, there's enough for maintenance to last awhile too.
Possible to rebuild aboard the Lindwurm, our engineers are confident that they can handle such a task, if it comes to it. If my superiors deem this salvage as not fit for purpose on Kaarst, then it can always be reconstructed and turned into a personal fighter escort.
Log 0019: Detour to Fifty-Five
Location: Omega-55, Omega space.
They finally came back to make sure we got out clean. Bretonia weren't too happy about our presence in Dublin, nor did they wanna let us get out. The saving grace is they couldn't find us. That is to be expected, of course. We haven't survived this long without being able to blend in with the shadows. Plus, there were enough targets to keep them busy and eventually forget about us.
Noth Squadron of course could make it out without any hassle. Fightercraft can slip out the "backdoor" of this death trap without any care in the world. If it weren't for our cargo, it'd have been easy enough to follow suit. As it stood we were carrying far too many goods for the journey to be feasible. I suppose we should count ourselves lucky that the Mollys needed time to prepare their payment, else they'd probably have cut us out completely and ran. As much as I wouldn't blame them, I'd want to hunt each of them down myself one by one had they done so. Including Seven. Especially Seven.
Mollys filled them up, and our remaining bulkhead storage spaces with ingots of pure gold. Untraceable, or so they claim. Not exactly sure that I trust them either but they did support us with some fightercraft of their own, so that counts for something. Who knows, maybe they'll win their battle with Bretonia and create a fully free state in their system. Always loved a good underdog story, its a pleasure to recount the big bad falling to the little guy they were so fond of treading on.
The Lindwurm's been stationed out in Omega Fifty-Five for a few hours now, courtesy of Molly and Noth escort. The Squadron kept their fleet small, because of "Profile Reasons". Likelier that they couldn't be arsed to give up their time to help. Shoulda told them their cuts were on the line. Might have moved the entire stock in one go if they had. We might be called upon to move more of the goods in the forseeable future, but for now we are 'free' to divert back to Kaarst for unloading of our salvage. Free. As if it were a choice.
