Albert McKenzie, Starfliers
To: Lazurith, Freelancer
Subject: Tau-23 Samples

Hello, Lazurith.

I apologize for leaving when I did. We have multiple concurrent projects active at the same time, pulling me away on spontaneous research and development meetings.

You mentioned EVA flight being necessary to acquire a sample from the crystalline satellite in the distant regions of Tau-23. Were you successful in doing so?

Albert.

It pains me to say that I'm awfully late on this report - there have been... gaps in my memory. You can read about it yourself in the hereby attached document.

I can only hope that the results I've put together are to your satisfaction.

- PRIVATE REPORT SUBMISSION -

OBJECT NAME(s): T-23-S-GG2, S-GG3
OBJECT CLASS: Mineral sample
SAMPLE GROUP: Tetcosilicate monoclinic polymorph
CRYSTAL CLASS: Trigonal to Tetragonal (48?)
DIAPHANEITY: Translucent
REFRACTIVE INDEX: nω = 2.655–2.777 nε = 2.652–2.644
MELTING POINT: Undetermined
ULTRAVIOLET FLUORESCENCE TYPE: Undetermined
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS: Piezoelectric, Class δ Psionic Object

NOTE: Objects GG2 and GG3 are to be kept inside any Class-3 insulant containers capable of preventing psi-wave leaks at all times. If an inspection of the samples is scheduled, a distance of at least fifty centimeters is recommended upon any interaction with the samples. Standard lab safety equipment, such as tungsten prongs, are highly advised. Direct contact with Sample GG3 is HIGHLY discouraged.

Object GG2 and GG3 are samples retrieved on the date 6-13-835 from the stellar object designated for the purposes of this report as GG1, situated in the Tau-23 system. Upon an initial visual and spectrographic inspection of the larger geode from where Sample GG2 and GG3 were extracted, the observers present at the scene made several observations regarding the planetoid at large - that its density appeared to be far larger than most other planetoids of its size, and that it is yet tectonically active - as the "outermost layer" of GG1 has been found in another location, further in the Tau-23 system, shed as though it were the skin of a snake. GG1 notably presented a very unusual psi-emitting characteristic, most noticeable through detection between an oscillating frequency signal ranging from 92.3 hZ to 115 hZ, as well as gentle radiation instances ranging all throughout the ROYGBIV (Visible Light Spectrum Scale).

The origins of the planetoid could not be determined in the scope of this report, as this would require an in-depth molecular analysis of the "cradle" object near the site, as well as a careful analysis of any trace of solidified gaseous remains from nearby stellar clusters.

After an initial extraction which took place near the planetoid's jagged surface through a tethered EVA based operation, I was able to retrieve two small fragments from GG1, the samples in question being GG2 and GG3. Some difficulties emerged, as my plasma cutting tool needed to be switched up to Frequency Mode Seven in order to dissolve the molecular bonds from the planetoid and successfully dislodging the samples themselves.

Upon retrieval, both of the samples were moved in my hold for further analysis at a later date. Once removed from the planetoid, the properties within the samples notably changed, emphatically underlining the chiral, undiscovered properties withheld in these crystals.

Though the molecular chemical composition of primarily Silicon and Carbon have been noted and studied before in nature, its peculiar and anomalous arrangement of isotopic ratios and molecular disposition was not - at least, not with any publicly available scientific records regarding crystals of this type and nature I could find on a short notice. On a personal note, I would highly recommend cross-referencing the results of this analysis with Cambridge scholars and university reports, as they can perhaps shed more light regarding the entropic qualities of these crystals.

While I was carelessly moving Sample GG3 for analysis under a spectroscope, my bare fingers entered in contact with the crystal. I can only define the experience as overwhelming, as a strong light flashed inside my peripheral vision, causing me to faint for a short time. My assistant was able to lift me onto a chair, and reportedly found me regaining my senses two to three hours later. I notably had no recollection of ever harvesting the crystals in the first place, losing any cognitive memory associated with the harvesting operations, and were it not for my internal systems and cameras as well as a personal testimony from my assistant, I would not have been able to jot down this current report.

Albert McKenzie, Starfliers
To: Lazurith
Subject: Tau-23 Samples

Hello, Lazurith.

Do not apologize. I understand these take some time. The flight there on our first visit was a long one.

Fascinating... the data you have provided us is invaluable. Three sample types... information is high level and thorough. We had never attempted space-walking to this degree. A process we have never fully developed. It is unfortunate it came at severe cost. Knowledge helps us prove or disprove hypotheses... I wish we had known this beforehand, though this is not the life we live, is it?

I would like you to work with us further. An invitation to join. Your experience with spacewalking and the physical familiarity with these samples could help us greatly.
