Basic Information

Name: Department of Investigation, Monitoring and Everything
ID/IFF: LSF ID / Freelancer IFF
Faction Tag: DIME|

The Liberty Security Force has defended the great House of Liberty against forces both overt and subversive since the inception of the department. To the average citizen of Liberty the LSF is somewhat of an enigma, there is the public face of the agency that communicates with the public, has registered offices on Manhattan you could in theory go to and so many rumors about talent scouts at universities and at the Navy that they have been all but accepted as fact.

And yet, there are the less substantiated rumors, those that border on conspiracy theory. Hidden safehouses, wire tapping and monitoring Liberty citizens, rogue splintercells, blackmailing wealthy elite caught with cardamine, experimenting with artifacts. mind control, Division 9, instigating wars to advance sinister agendas and god only knows what else. For most of Liberty, these rumors are nothing other than that; conspiracy theories peddled by criminals trying to dirty a sterling reputation or the raving words of madmen who are in desperate need of mental assistance. To those in know however, some of these claims are not that outrageous, let alone unlikely.

The Department of Investigation, Monitoring and Everything, or DIME for short, could be considered such a splinter cell within the LSF. DIME agents utilize the latest experimental technology available to them such as adapted Nomad weapons and cloaking devices. It is this interest in experimental tech that has them extremely interested in the Core's dabbling with AI in the Omicrons, despite it exploding horribly in their face. However one need not go as far as the Omicrons to find cutting edge tech that would do well in the hands of the department; Kishiro's progress in Jump Drive Tech has proven equally interesting if not just as dangerous. Of course, the treasured Valhalla vault is the uncontested prize the DIME truely wish to obtain. Who knows what such technologies could do in the -right- hands.

The origin of the DIME is highly classified, something even the highest echelons of the LSF are not privy too save that they are dedicated to obtaining and developing cutting edge technology through any means neccesary as long as plausible deniability can be maintained.

In the wake of the Nomad war and the near infection of the president the urgency to close the gap with the newly discovered Nomads became not just the top priority, but a matter of survival. Discontent to simply wait for Ageira to pull something new out of their 'archives', the DIME collected what Nomad remains they could obtain and initiated DIAMOND: the DIrective for Integration, Analysis and Mutation of Nonhuman Designs.

Research and development for DIAMOND was initially performed in a highly classified research station in Alaska, contributing to the eventual adaptation of Nomad weaponry for snub vessels.

Developments over the years.

A fall from grace.

A few short years after the president had been saved from infection and some degree of normalcy started to return to Sirius, a DIME research post hidden deep within the Tuttle Creek Nebula picked up an unusual signal coming from within the system. Concerned the secrecy of the station was at risk, a DIME patrol was dispatched to investigate and traced the signal to the surface of Planet Wichita. Nobody knows what exactly happened down on its surface, but in but a few short weeks after the entirety of the DIME had fallen under Nomad control, or been otherwise dealt with.

To this day DIME continues operating as a sleeper cell deep within Liberty, performing their duty as LSF operatives while keeping the Nomad mindshare informed of the goings on of Liberty.

The DIME and Division 9.

Ever vigilant the LSF and the Order eventually became suspicious of an infected presence within Liberty and, while they didn't work together, they were eventually able to force Division 9 to reveal itself. The DIME investigated Division 9 alongside the rest of the LSF, letting D9 operatives slide through the cracks where they could and using lethal force when there was a risk of a D9 agent being captured.

Alien overlords & the mindshare.

The DIME provides insider knowledge of the goings on in Liberty to both known mindshares and their Human thralls, however they don't seem to report to either Vagrants or K'hara. It is unknown if this is because the Hiveminds are letting them operate independently to ensure both sides are being given the same information, or, in a more controversial theory, report to a different mindshare altogether.
