For eight centuries, the Bretonian Intelligence Service has been the eyes and ears of Bretonia. A tradition brought with the colonists from Sol. Their reputation for superb information gathering and skilled agents was continued on by the service in Sirius.
They were not infallible however. The Service had been unable to discover or prevent the Nomad war, only learning of their existence after the fact. This had shaken the government’s faith in their intelligence service. This faith was further knocked when they failed to predict the composition of Kusari fleets breaking through to Leeds.
These disastrous failings led to mass scrutinisation by the government, even an inquest was begun into the leadership. It was found that even with assets in Kusari, they had failed to realise how desperate the situation was. Their Director missing, presumed exiled by the Crown, the entire Bretonian Intelligence Service was thus folded into the Armed Forces, not only to allow free flow of intelligence, but so these issues never arose again.
While this new direction worked in the short term, Gallia would throw a spanner in the works. All able bodied personnel were called to the front, to contain this new threat. Bretonia was beaten and bloodied, but far from out of the fight. Pushed back to Planet New London, even the service wasn’t exempt from donating bodies to the cause.
By the eventual break of the New London Blitz, the service was again gutted, but this time by attrition. Lying buried and forgotten, it was replaced by individual agencies that filled the gap. These exist to this day, the new home of MI5 and MI6, working in the background to keep Bretonia safe from the new evergrowing threats.
Given the turmoil that greets us today, the eventual decision was taken to put the Bretonian Intelligence Service back on the map. Former members that survived the wars were contacted and brought back into the fold. The service will live again, but as something new. Something dynamic to face the ever changing environment as we recoup and rebuild.
Lady Victoria Mobile Headquarters - Zulu
As a veteran of both the war with Kusari and later with Gallia, the Lady Victoria has seen her fair share of action. When acquired by the service, she still wore her hospital ship livery. Now restored to her original colour scheme, she acts as a mobile headquarters for the Bretonian Intelligence Service. Providing logistical support within core systems and acting as diplomatic transport when delegates require. While based in the Newcastle system, she is often seen riding the lanes of Bretonia.
Home Operations New London, Cambridge, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle
Within the above systems, if all other directives are achieved, BIS Officers are to act as additional units for local Armed Forces and Police Authority units. This includes, but is not limited to; border control, cargo inspections, anti piracy etc.
Border Operations Omega 3, Cortez, Magellan, Tau 31
In the absence of any other Armed Forces or Police Authority units, BIS Officers are permitted to act in the interests of Bretonia, both military and civilian. Orders from headquarters will supersede this.
Core Operations Newcastle, Edinburgh, Tau 31
Systems where BIS Officers are stationed, are considered to be our main priority. Standing orders supersede any given by Armed Forces or Police Authority in the field, unless prior agreements are in place. Extra care is to be taken in Edinburgh and Tau 31 due to increased hostile presence. All BIS Officers are to report to the system’s overseer aboard Perth Outpost or Battlecruiser Livingston respectively. Any operations within the Newcastle system are to be overseen by leadership aboard the Lady Victoria.
Vital Operations Further Sirius, Omicrons
Given the ever growing threat from alien organisms, the service is expanding operations into worlds lesser known. These are to be considered hostile warzones and treated as such. Operational security is our first and foremost concern while expanding. Efforts to contact new allies and build trust are being commenced. This will be updated as our efforts continue.
