I am a fan of Disco, not an active on, but a fan.

I want to ask how the additions to the mod that is Discovery are added with each version. Is it discussed a group? Is it an empire? Is it a democracy of sorts?

Whatever the method, I don't mind, its all good my end. But how is it talked through?

Developer input is prized like dragon eggs.

As somebody who is working on a ship I would also like to know.

Who do we report our proposed ship statistics to?

Ship balancing is headed by mjolnir. I am not on the dev team but i get the impression that most other additions are handled as follows:
  1. Propose addition to Igiis.
  2. Igiis thinks about it/consults with others.
  3. Igiis says yay, nay, or develop it more.
    • If he says develop it more return to step one.
    • If he says yay it is taken into the dev team which does with it what it please and sometimes consults you about changes if they like you.
    • If he says nay you try again or give up.
Keep in mind this is just an impression and not necessarily how it works.

For ships though, just give it to a ship dev that is on the mod team like, ummm, see the dev team list. Just dont expect it to be exactly the same when it comes out the other end.

something like that.

the dev team has different aspects. some are dedicated shipwrights (doom, angel of mercy, jinx are a few well known examples), while others are dedicated to help with ship balancing (which is led by Mjolnir, and has a dedicated group of people devoted solely to balancing equipment AND ships), some specialize in system modding, while others take on the duties of infocards.

in the end, obviously everything requires the mod leader, Igiss' approval, but before the ideas are brought forth to him, its actually seen if the idea is feasible to implement at all. no point having multiple threads about say.. "oh, we need more battlestar ships in disco" or "can we have battleships with 32 turrets and 8 mill base armour to simulate realistic battleship/fortresses" etc, since the ideas dont fit into discovery for one, and are stupid.

discovery aims to be as close to the vanilla freelancer, and certain ideas while they are good to go, would not fit in our "universe", however, each idea brought forth on the main forums is read by most if not all dev team members, and discussed in more detail in terms of pros and cons, and how much time and effort would be required to make it work etc.

in this case, i suggest something like jinx, or any other modeller does. once the model is created, the images are posted in the ship submission section to see if the general public likes the ship as well, since its us who will be flying it, not primarily npcs.

as tazuras said, do not expect proposed ships/stats/models to be exactly they way they are, since they will most probably change during the course of extensive balance testing.

this is a very, very brief and vague version of how the dev team works, i need food, or im going to pass out.

Igiss.

(On a slightly serious note, I want to know why majkp appears as "majk" in the server rules.)

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

Majkp is short for his full name. Majk is Czech for "Mike" shortened from Michal.
