Who are Highland Security? A word from John Freeman, Chief of Operations.
Founded in 817 A.S., Highland Security is an independent company that provides specialized expertise and services of a military nature on a contractual basis. While we advocate neither lawful or unlawful paths, we follow our own moral compass and try to distance ourselves from the more mercenary ideology of anything for a buck - whether we're in the field, or in the boardroom. With our roots growing from oft-retold adventures in the Edge Worlds and the free-roaming lifestyle of an independent professional, we try and employ as few clerical staff as possible, only embracing policies and regulations when we believe they're essential to our safety, the safety of our clients, and the completion of our contracts.
Accepting rookies and veterans alike from a multitude of backgrounds and birthplaces, our hiring policies aren't concerned with heritage or experience - rather the intelligence, ethic, and demeanor of anyone we consider. With the range of possible situations we could find ourselves assigned to being as diverse as the multitudes of employers we could be contracted by, our primary concern is being able to depend on any man or woman we hire one hundred percent, whether they're working on the ground or in the depths of space.
Highland Security as an operating company came into existence in 817 A.S.; the ideals that drive it began long before. Mercenaries and Bounty Hunters have realised the need to work regularly in groups since the professions began, but it's rarer to see Freelancers operate in teams, or even in tandem. It's a state of affairs that sees a crowd of predominantly under-geared, under-paid and under-trained pilots wreck their ships and lose their lives as their luck in flying solo eventually runs out; an ever increasing death toll that I very nearly became a digit of. Taking a fondness to flying at a young age, and a markedly less kind outlook on life in my crowded home, becoming a Freelancer was a move that suprised none of my friends. The freedom to go where you please and make your own road is, to me at least, nothing less than intoxicating. After two years of running small jobs in House space, I felt ready to try my luck in the Edge Worlds.
To to be concise, it rapidly became clear that I wasn't ready at all. The pirates there were much tougher than the rag-tag gangs I was used to, and it wasn't long before I'd talked my way into a job well past my capabilities; suffice to say had Jeff Ender not run across my flaming ship that day as I fled from my supposed target, I wouldn't be here to write this.
From Jeff I got a timely assist, a ride back to a station, and a loan for a new ship. I also made my first friend in the Edge Worlds. Every job since that day, we flew together. Over time we made more friends and picked up more wingmen; I'd like to say every one of them still flies with us today, but the reality of our profession isn't so kind. The mates we lost working on the Edge strengthened our dedication to an unspoken motto; if you want to make it home, you don't fly alone. It's on the back of this ideal that Highland Security came to exist, and now we're trying to bring that message to a whole new audience.
As we meet new employers and operate in new environments, our company strives to make that patch of land, that field of space, just a little bit better for our trouble. Just a little bit safer. As time goes on and we continue to solve problems wherever Sirius needs us, I'd like to think our little family can make a real difference to this place we've come to call home.
With new recruits and new friends every day, I don't think its such a far-fetched dream to keep.

Diplomacy
The contractual nature of our work means today's allies can be tomorrow's enemies, and as such our diplomatic information is updated as frequently as necessary. The current standings are as follows:
DynoXe International is a Private Military Company similar in function to ourselves, and we enjoy an official Alliance with them. We have also signed an official contract with the Colonial Remnant and function as Colonial Auxilia as and when requested.
Our work has also seen us seek friendly relationships with the IMG and the Zoners.
Owing to this, the Outcasts remain our signature opponent. The same work, focusing on disrupting smuggling in the area, has also given us a personal distaste for slavery, so the Slavers Union is listed on an unfriendly basis. All other factions are those we've either yet to officially contact, or are simply neutral to us.

Zone of Influence
As a faction of Freelancers, we aren't restricted to a particular area of operation. You can theoretically find us anywhere in Sirius, though we'll often stick together in one area at a time rather than spread out by ourselves.
Ships and Equipment
Any ship or piece of equipment that is freely sold through public channels to Civilian pilots is a prime purchase for a member of our company; we find ourselves primarily using Rocs and Eagles. As our diplomacy with factions improves, our ship and equipment choice may expand, and this section will be updated with details as necessary.
- ADDENDUM ONE: We have been officially licensed two Evo 2B "Nyx" VHFs by the Colonial Navy.
Roles and Responsibilities
As an independent company, Highland Security does not follow a military ranking scheme but instead a corporate structure. The company has been recently created and new roles are being created as their neccesity becomes apparent; as such, this list may seem lacking at present.
- Chairman
Head of the board of Directors; the official leader and spokesperson of Highland Security.
- Chief of Operations
Director of Highland Security's forces; responsible for a variety of tasks related to the logistics of maintaining an efficient operational force, as well as the overall training and leadership of said force.
- Team Captain
Given control over their own combat element, these pilots are responsible for the training, mobilization, and leadership of their individual team.
- Team Member
A professional pilot performing to their leader's specifications when in a group, or on their own initiative when alone. If the official team leader is not present, the next member down in the numerical ordering of that team is in command.
Recruitment
If you're interested in joining our company or would like more information, feel free to send a private message to anyone on the board of directors and we'll be happy to help!
