So, I'm throwing an idea for refinement and discussion.

Idea is simple, if the full sentence is not in English, the sender must be infested by nomads.

Nomads are trying to infiltrate the whole Sirius, so no ID is immune to this (of course the level 30 rule applies). And practically almost all the Sirius humans have an interest in keeping the infestation in check, so virtually anybody can post the blanket bounty. Of course screenies of the infested speaking is a must. Ideally either Order or BHG would have the biggest reason to post such a bounty, but really any Galaxy wide faction would have their interest in this.

And I'm all for spicing the text with using house local language, but I think everyone here knows were to draw the line.

So what you think? It's within RP, but is it within the spirit of Disco? Your comments please.

Flying under radar.

I dont know , peoples tongues can slip and they can blurb out a line or two in their native languages sometimes. Not to mention that the houses have a good amount of influence from non-english speaking countries ( Rheinland-> Germany ; Kusari-> Japan ; Hispanians->Spanish) so it would be a bit dodgy to implement.

Unrealistically dodgy even.

@AJBeast: The doubts exactly in my mind. But there's a line between creating atmosphere and spewing out text in foreign language.

Maybe any language containing non-English, German, Japanese, French and Spanish.

That would leave still plenty of targets (Russian, Hungarian, Serbo-Croat, Finnish, Swedish, Dutch etc.).

Flying under radar.

Hrm , sorry , but I dont think something like that would work.

"OMG PPL IN HERE ARE RACIST!" - angry lolwutter

I predict alot of situations like these. I do agree with you that its easy to tell the usuall few words in the houses language from blabering constantly in another language though.

It's a nice thought, but the controversy it would generate would double the size of the Rules forum. Well-intentioned, but all it would do is make somebody very, very angry when they could just as easily be talked to, or simply ignored or sanctioned if they're not willing to listen. It sits on the far end of that grey smudge in between Good Samaritan and Phallic Move.

At best, it would just create more problems for the admins to deal with.
At worst, I don't even want to go there.

To be honest, the fact that they're speaking other languages isn't the problem. It's the fact that a lot of the time, it's over system chat, and thus everyone in system sees it.

A better solution would be to set up the automated message system to display a message saying something along the lines of "The official language of system chat is English. Please keep text in all other languages to local, group and private channels whenever possible," and then have the same phrase repeated in some of the most common non-english languages, like German, Russian, etc.

This is because most people aren't fluent in more than one language, and might not be able to understand the message if it is in English only.

The fact that someone speaks another language is no reason to try to drive them away, intentionally or otherwise.
