I did the Vulture for the Slavers, which is something like what you're talking about only in fighter form.

It would be good to see Pirate freighter-type ships specifically designed both in practicality and in RP, to work with a pack of fighters.

I might (MAYBE depending on free moments) conjure up something...

Now that I saw the renders again, I guess it would be a scaled down version of the ALG Mover. Here is a picture:

I'm trying to make a small picture on MSPaint, the original one:(

I am already working on something like this. Please see the wanderer thread. http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=44274

In there you can see my WIP on two ships oriented towards cargo piracy, a freighter class similar to the armored transport, and another larger transport that i hope to be balanced similarly to the Hogosha rabba. Although these ships will share a theme with the Slave Liner, they are not intended to be exclusive to slavers.

Well if these are what you're looking for Fletcher then that takes a load off me :)

anyways, having seen what Nexus has got there, I think he is more than capable of making a third ship in that lineup if you have to have something with a big claw on the front. Whether he is willing... well... are you Nexus? :)

While the Wanderer is a nice ship, it isn't the style I had in my head.

This Cargo Raider is meant to snatch and grab the cargo pod quickly, with the Wanderer it looks like it would take time to slot it into the cargo hold.

The Wanderer appears to be more of a smuggler vessel, this is meant to be used for piracy on transports in a group.

Ahh I think I see your idea more clearly now. No none of those ships would really be suitable for this claw concept. The transports I am designing are trading cargo space for armor and firepower, whereas this specific idea would involve something different. For some reason I thought that you were simply after a cargo piracy vessel, I should read more fully.

EDIT: Have you thought of giving the heavy lifter a pirate modification? Because grabbing onto and moving cargo pods is its job. It just needs more gear to do the job more forcefully.

A smaller scale Heavy Lifter or ALG Mover that has been modified by pirates would fit the bill I'd say. They both latch onto their cargo, and both are not combat suited.
