The Elders (Name pending): A group of veteran Discovery players that patrol Sirius for uncouth behavior- and set them straight. Not through sanctions, but through rebuttal.
Now, if I recall correctly, we have a group out there called the [Angels] which is supposedly helping newbies to get started. But I haven't seen one online in ages. I believe [T] was created for that purpose, but I only see them trading, so I suppose I was wrong.
I propose we start a group called the [Elders] or somesuch that actively patrol Sirius and give aid and assistance to OORP or new players, strengthening our player and roleplay community, developing friendships and knowledge bases for new players to access and utilize. Anything from funding their first Rhino to ramming their battlecruiser out of a fight that they re-engaged in.
I don't think this could be done discreetly. The Elders, of course, would need to be respectable and renowned, on the forums and in-game. I remember from when I was a newbie both on the forums and the server, I thought that people with 500+ posts were gods of the game.
There needs to be serious reform in this place. I see too many people sanctioned.. THAT HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN PLAYING FOR A WEEK. I would be willing to head the [Elders] if I can get enough support. We would patrol OORP hotspots like Pennsylvania, New York, Omicron Gamma, Omicron Alpha, and New Tokyo. (the convergence of several trade routes)
I would need tremendous support from all of you on this, and I hope that you do. We need veteran players, not just in PvP but in roleplay as well. Something I would love more than anything (but is thinking too far ahead at this point) would be to have an ID special for Elders, that have some crucially overlooked rules on it- Cruise engines, F1 abuse, Re-engagement, etc...
If my idea comes to fruition, I'm sure that a noticeable decline in confusion and sanctions would follow. I was once engaged without warning by two KNF indies. I destroyed one and fled the other. I spoke with him through PMs, and the next day, I found them again on a different character, still unlawful. Instead of silent shooting, they gave me a solid 15 minutes of great roleplay before the fighting broke loose. I lost, and walked away satisfied.
Well, one a day isn't all that impressive. We need a real movement for this to work. The results will far outshine the effort. This is the difference between the next LN Admiral and another LNS lolwutter.
Well true, but you should know that angels never yelled at anyone or instructed anyone to play their way. they are just there to give suggestions to players that decide to ask and they are there to warn if players are doing something against server rules.
having 4 capships shooting each other for "practice" in front of anywhere is just bit oorp and nothing else.
Yeah, good idea. I always meet new players and if I try to RP with them they don't say anything or they move away. So, I think it'll be a real challenge to explain what's RP for someone who doesn't speak english. :P
Exactly- Even big bad capital ships need a slap on the wrist. An appropriate scenario, using your idea:
THE BAD WAY TO DO IT:
Capship 1- Hi guys morning.
Capship 2- hi
Capship 3- hi
Capship 4- Hah, Capship 1, morning is irrelevant in space!
Capship 1- hey guys wanna practice?
Capship 3- k
Capship 4- Alright, lads! Weapons charged!
Pew pew pew
ELDER INTERVENTION:
Elder: What is going on here?
Capship 2- practice
Elder: There are civilians flying around! What the bloody plague has gotten into you? There's a base right there! A trade convoy is coming through here! Where is your superior officer?
Capship 4- Sir, this is a mandatory training exercise. All weapons have been switched to training mode, base shields have been revamped, and these civilians are drones, meant to simulate a battle in friendly space. We apologize for not warning the system ahead of time, and will be sure to keep that in mind. Our Commanding Officer is on that base over there, monitoring the situation. Transmitting communication info.
This was meant to show that there was at least one good roleplayer in there, and that he could then take over the situation for me. The Elder in question would contact each capship via PM and explain the situation. This is better than screenshotting and having all four sanctioned, right?

Unfortunately, that's the truth in some cases. Those types don't stay on the server long.
