Hi all. I'm new here so I don't now how you all feel about this (or if it gets talked about a lot) but I was thinking should the guns on cap ships resemble the ones of today more. Now I played all the way through vanilla and I know that a lot of the cap ship guns were designed to be little but it just seems impractical. Shouldn't the cap ships carry larger guns (multiple ones in a turret) that fire far and fast projectiles. We could call them Gauss cannons (and do levels of them) that fire to visual rang (or farther if you guy think we should) because projectile weapons don't shed energy like energy weapons do and should go until they hit something in principle. If the LNS Missouri had 3 big turrets with four guns each like the real life USS Missouri don't you think that would look cool. I know that we are all against imports but a lot of other sci fi franchises have the classic big turrets of WW2 era battleships (just look at the Imperial cap ships in Star Wars) and I think it would be a good addition. I just think it is weird that a massive ship like the Rienland Battleship carries these little guns with slow projectile speed. We don't have to change any existing ships but maybe future cap ships could implement this idea.

Thoughts?

Imho, futuristic battleship turrets should look like the ones from tomorrow...

I wish I had close up pics of GMG BS Primaries, but I find they look pretty cool. Two guns for it's 2.00 RoF. I haven't purchased GMG BS Secondaries yet (I hear dreadful tales about Secondaries) but I imagine they have 3 guns for it's 3.03 refire rate similar to transport turrets. Just a hunch though.

well, Tic has made new models for the BHG's turrets, I'm trying to make new models for the order's turrets. All of the house militaries have unique turret designs from vanilla... the only other ones that might need to be redone is corsair and outcast guns.

On Gauss Cannons

High Range - Unlimited range and very fast is kinda un-balanced.
A Battleship would just load up on Gauss Cannons and fire away. Slap 12 on a Osiris and sit 3k away or even more and snipe the poor BS until it dies.

True I was thinking that it would fire really slowly so your shots would have to count. I mean like 15 second reload (or longer) but very powerful.

Essentially what some Osiris pilots do now, just, the primary turret does the exact same thing, or cerbs is you want an extra bit of range.

Yay! Gauss Cannons for Sirius!

Have a look at this weapon list from Warzone 2100. They have very good proposals imo.

Needle Gun, Rail Gun and Gauss Cannon. :yahoo:
