This has been bothering me for quite some time, and I think it should be discussed at some point. Nowadays, you see Gallic players (mostly from the Council side due to RP reasons) make pacts, agreements and the lot with Sirrian players. To what extent should people actually care/uphold about this? All factions are still unofficial and hold virtually no 'power'.

So, my question is ; Will it affect Gallic space at all? Should people care about this? Should people from the same faction as the player who made the 'deal' bother upholding it?

IMO if they are unofficial factions, then any pacts or agreements should go on a player by player baisis, and have nothing to do with NPC faction diplomacy. Think of them as a small faction within a faction, or as individuals making deals. At least thats what i think.

So, i doubt it would register among the other factions at all, or even the rest of their NPC faction. In short, no, other people of that NPC faction dont have to adhere to any pacts or agreements made by an unofficial player faction.

it really sucks gallia isnt open to much RP, and i kinda like what players have been attempting to do.
it'd be terrible if with all their pacts and treaties, some bretonian players could still go PEW PEW PEW around reunion and "OLOLO you're not official, nothing you say means anything"

I see how this may have spawned from the IMG/Council post earlier. The Council situation is a perfect example. Anything close to an offficial faction in the Council would be the [Council] or the Northern/Southern Council divisions. But their gone, the first time i saw seth's post I left it to those guys to make up their minds. They didn't, in fact i doubt they even saw it, and now it's been revived i've offered to make a group decision amongst the independant players that are currently around.

I think if there's no particular authority to go to in these matters then sometimes you just have to take matters into your own hands. When you've got oppertunities like this passing you by that have the potential to open up Gallia a little more or just simply boost the RP, it's unfair that indies should keep their say out of the matter. Independant players are perfectly capable of maintaining simple diplomatic relations be it official or not.

Basicly my point is. Independant players should have a say in diplomatic matters, as long as it's a sensible and reasonable group opinion.

They can exactly do that Roly.
Since no gallic faction can become Official (As apparantly there is to be major major hugetastic changes to Gallic RP come 4.86) it means nothing official can be done.

But does their say in things count? I'd personally say no. Us Gallic factions are still unofficial, and hence can't do much besides play and grow. For example, I'm sure the LN could change a thing or two around Manhattan. I doubt we can with Bourg-En-Presse, for example.

Well this is what i mean, a sensible and reasonable group opinion. All it takes is a poll for all indies and indie factions to participate in on the forums and an Agreement can be made. So not an alliance, no treaties, no embargos, nadda, just simple agreements between one group of people and another. But as soon as an official faction emerges everything should be reset to default.

I've been ignoring Gallia for that reason. While, yes, indie players should have a say in diplomacy, the factions, official or unofficial, should have a much larger say, because, frankly, they are groups. In a purely democratic sense, factions have more of a say, because they have more voices. Now, of course, factions are often led autocraticly, but that does not mean a faction has only one vote: People choose to give their vote to their faction by logging onto faction ships and enforcing faction decisions, etc.

Unnoffical factions, as I see it, in the lack of an official faction, should be acting and becoming official, and setting up the diplomacy, etc. Indie players should -not- be deciding diplomacy, without a large group of players backing them, which leads back into an unnoffical faction. My point being: Single induviduals shouldn't be making decisions for the group, unless that group has signed on to being led (a faction).

That's where the faction power comes from, in having more than five people who've looked at a single leader and sacrificed their vote to the group, and the leader. Faction leaders can then look at any induvidual indie player and say, quite honestly, that they're bigger than the indie, they've more votes.

In the case of Gallia specifically, there's been not even much in the way of unnoficcial factioning, a few councils, but nothing to warrant, say, the QCG reaching out a hand in diplomatic airs. Now, I understand that this is the administration's fault, or perhaps dev's fault. It -is- a fault, a negative, and a detriment, in my oppionion(Gallia might as well not have put up reunion untill 86, and have been entirely separate still, for all the impact on the rest of sirius its had. Rather a huge plot hole to carry around for a year).
The QCG, for example, is not particularly interested in agrements with disparate groups of people. We will take them, and codeify them, but if they're going to be transient things, erased when/if an offical faction appears...well, we might as well wait for a cluster of votes with some form of apparent longevity to show up before we start shaking hands. Hullo. We know you're there...but you have no organization for us to speak with.

Show us a group, and we'll diplomatize with it. Of course, since you're not allowed to do much in the way of grouping...

I think people should wait a but until Gallia is more open and more spread. Now it's only barely visited part of the Universe. At least from what I have seen and heard.

Sadly this is true. More often then not my Galiia characters generally run into traders looking for a fast buck who have little interest in interaction only in how quickly they can get the tobacco out of Gallia or the Neon in!:(
