Save yourself a lot of trouble - Don't merge partitions...
There are several Programs available, but all of them have a tendency to screw up while merging or splitting partitions.. Best is to get a spare drive to copy the data on, then back - Phone a friend.
As for Win7 - I'm already running win7 now since the start of this year - you'd be better off with a clean install.
I'm running Win7 64 bit.
