A History
of
The Edgeworlds War

The Order that we know of today was originally part of the Order of Cincinnatus (founded in 28 A.S.), a secret branch of the Liberty government that was originally created to research the Alien Artifacts found on Planet Manhattan and also establish a dictatorship over the Liberty Republic if and only if its survival was threatened. Once the threat had passed, the Order of Cincinnatus would retreat back into the shadows.

During the Nomad War, most of the Order of Cincinnatus was infected by the Nomads, except for Casper Orillion, one of the Order of Cincinnatus members who worked on the construction of the Osiris Prototype Battleship.

When Orillion realized that the rest of the Order of Cincinnatus had been infected and that he was their next target, he fled to Planet Toledo in the Omicron Minor System with the Osiris Prototype. Afterwards, he founded the Order that we know of today and began gathering supporters and constructing the base on Planet Toledo.

While classified as a terrorist organization by the Liberty government, the Order has historically been regarded favorably by Rheinland, likely due to Rheinland's own problems with The Wild, and is considered neutral by Kusari and Bretonia.

Since its inception, the Order has been based on Planet Toledo in the Omicron Minor system. During the Battle of Omicron Minor in the Nomad War this base was severely damaged by bombardment from a Slomon K'Hara fleet, but was later rebuilt and is now used by both Order pilots and allies alike as a supply base and safe haven.

The Order of Cincinnatus still exists even today though it has only met a handful of times. It is speculated that one of the early members of the Order of Cincinnatus was Atticus Rockford, an Alliance (possibly American) general who fought in the War of Sol and survived contact with the Nomads on the dark side of Dwarf Planet Pluto.

The Guild (as it is simply referred to by most) is a commercial group formed mostly out of former criminals and lawbreakers, dedicated to making money by hunting down known terrorists and outlaws for the promise of easy money. Originating from the formerly institutionalised masses of Houston, the Guild has managed to effectively spread its business all across Liberty, Bretonia, southern Rheinland, a part of the largely xenophobic Kusari and even the vastly dangerous Edge Worlds, drawing in the shunned and the exiled from all walks of life. The massive amounts of revenue that the organisation brings in have allowed it to manufacture not only its own line of fighters and weapons, but even entire capital ships poised to fight against the Order in the deep Omicron systems.

The years following the Nomad Wars saw the formation of a new Bounty Hunter union. The Guild began to penetrate deep space with enormous success, securing a system that it controlled excusively in the Omegas. This rapid progress, assisted mostly by the construction of destroyer-class vessels in the shipyards of Liberty, was coupled with a growing awareness of the enormous profit opportunities afforded by exploitation of Nomad technology. In time, the Guild became a presence in the Edgeworlds but its presence on the Freeports caused significant tensions between the Zoners and their Corsair neighbours. More importantly, the Order's agents, believeing that the Guild's elite could undermine their hard-won but possibly temporary victory over the Nomads, began to mobilise.

No one can say for certain when the first shots were fired in the war, but clearly both sides felt that the vast Edgeworlds were still too small to contain the other as well. Abandoning Freeport 11, the Guild established a forward operating base in Omicron Delta in AS 816. Re-fitting of the station became the Guild's priority. Supplies of MOX, prices inflated by the war between Bretonia and Kusari, were smuggled through systems under the influence of the Corsairs. To divert attention from precious supply lines, the Core sponsored hit-and-run attacks against the Corsair homeworld.

Meanwhile, reconnaisance patrols searched for the Order base. Guild scientists began examining Nomad specimens. The Core's goal was clear: Confine the Nomads. Contain the Order. Control the Edgeworlds. Towards the end of AS 816, investigations of a large planet in the Omicron Lost system revealed traces of alien structures, most likely that of an extinct alien civilisation.

Ruins on Omicron Lost.

The similarity with structures found elsewhere in the Omicrons caused speculation that it may have been the remains of a previously unknown attempt at human colonisation. However, before a full-scale research operation could be established on the planet surface, the pressing matter of who controlled access to the planet had to be settled. The Guild Core's vanguard found a determined Order force obstructing their path...
