I don't really, however there are many archetypes that can come from other places.

Of course I infuse my own personalities into the characters I play as well. So, yes and no.

However, I refuse to play something like Klingons in this universe. That offends my ordered nature of sci-fi sense. I prefer keeping my universes separate (and ordered).

Other people like mish-mash and I try to ... go along with it as best I can, but sometimes I just don't see the sense.

Two of mine are slightly exported from history (Montezuma, who wants to sacrafice people and Godefroy de Bouillon who crusades against the council/sirrians), though the others are just random creations that i RP in any way that suits their charachter.

I generally tend to not stereotypes my characters so much, rather, I stereotype the faction that my character is in. (of course, I always over-do it)

Then again, the commander of my KuKu is based of an anime character.

But seriously, I use characters from books I read:

The pilot Lonewolf is based off a character in a series of books written by Harry Turtledove.

If Kusari space wasn't so <strike>Fraking</strike> empty I could use a ton of good ideas from the enlighten anime of our time. (Ghost in the shell for example).

It's funny to see how many Outcast and Corsair pilots use the same names. Ay Dios Mio!
At least Death.Runner is original. Insane yes, but still unique. I hope he doesn't kill me for this...
