Ok I would like to dive deeper in redesigning some skydome/spheres for systems, so Im looking for program
that can open-edit-save skyspheres. Does anyone know the name?

Starspheres are composed of 3d mesh with textures applied to them, the textures are usually flagged as nebula as well in the UTF tree for their materials.

Two programs you will definitely need will be a UTF editor (Starport has the latest), and Milkshape 3d along with the .3db/.cmp exporter. The UTF editor can open the usual FL model formats, .cmp (ships mostly), .3db (objects, some bases, usually has embedded materials), and .mat (material library).

I wont go too much into this but there are a few tutorials floating around I can dig up when I get home. Your two basic options for crafting a new Starsphere is either to take a vanilla one and replace the materials, or to map a sphere with a new material and export it. This would mean texturing a sphere, box, etc. with your chosen texture and then exporting, and testing it.

Either way if you're unfamiliar with modding FL read about the basics of exporting and importing models, texturing, and editing files via the UTF editor.

Thanks mate, and thanks to Yuri for explaining me how does it work. I took some time today and I can
say now that I understand few important things on skydomes/starspheres.
This is what I've done in one hour.

Looks quite good, we are currently looking for new starspheres/skydomes for the mod. Some disco systems are using vanilla starsphere which don't always fit with the system and its location
