So, we all know how there's a certain range to the sun which if you cover, your ship will randomly explode due to you leaving the system. Since I never bothered doing so, I don't exactly know what distance that exactly is, but I just had the pleasure to venture 400 k out.

Now, I don't quite know why a system extends its reach to about 600k in every direction from the sun when about 100k at maximum is being used by the player base, but is there a possibility to decrease that distance to say, 200 or 300k? Having so vast systems is entirely useless and is simply annoying when a trader decides he'll try his chances with infinity instead of paying a tax or a fine.

Yeah, invisible barriers in space totally make sense. Hell no. I love my long long chases to infinity. I can read a book, drink some tea with sweets and generally enjoy the only thing that feels like space in Freelancer. And then i catch a trader, shoot his turrets off and go back/mine myself. Priceless.

Well, I was expecting this thread to be about something like Newcastle. Guess I was a bit wrong.

Thing is, I don't see any real problem with the way things are now. We may not always use all the space we're given, but it's nice to know that it's there. The only possible "good thing" I'd see us getting out of this is in that arguement about traders and miners flying forever towards the edge of the system. And personally, I don't see any problem with that. If a trader wants to fly into infinity, let them. If a pirate wants to follow that trader, let them.

Also, if you were to put up walls or kill-barriers, there'd be some problems with the systems that actually do continue past 400K from the center. Like Newcastle.

My Order-Prisonliner often is hidden in ~100-200k distance to any station... so not on the map anymore...

too small map would be fail...

Obvious views of a pirate.

So you want to make pirating even easier?

Nty.

If anything, the system boundaries should link with the neighboring systems. Sure, a lot slower but more realistic.

Systems don't work that way.
They are individual 'cells' that you are stuck in unless you use a jumphole/jumpgate to move to another cell.

In relation to the large distance away from the actual used area of the system.
Could be done.

Considering that to be undetected you just need around 15k, 100k seems a bit too much, aye?
