What's so hard about it?
/restart miner
Swap to recruit ID
Transfer a bit of cash from whichever char you have to set it up on.
Go get the ship you want. If a light miner, do this before joining the mining faction.
Go to a base of the mining faction you want to join
Double bribe
Two easy missions
Buy mining faction ID, your IFF should already be good.
Go shoot rocks.

No harder then setting up any other character. If you're having issues shooting NPCs in a hegemon, ask an official faction member to help out. I know IMG and BMM officials actively help their starting folk out, both indy and official faction. I imagine the same is true for Kruger.

[Edit] That said, the Dacite and Mafic could use a few additional sellpoints.

surley restart /house, go to house miner, 1 easy mission buy shizzle, mine?

That said I was mining with the vps in the gold rush days, when my mouse was broken, and since getting a new one, vowed never to subject myself to it again!

I think know-how is the major issue for newbies.

An new mining guide could help that one can point them to.

The only big disadvantage to new player especially would be that mining require a higher knowledge ( place to mine, how to...) then trading.
ANd beside, if I could mine with ANY ship I would mine with a battleship with flak cannons in omega 7 .. (sun)
You sir are a genius... *looks at update* :(

Not really. Small roids are not affected by explosive damage:P

You're asking the wrong question, I think.

Setting up a mining character is still pretty easy, no harder than it was before.

The problem is that once you've gone through all that setup, you still make less money than you can make from trading. Mining might be useful to get from Hegemon-buying territory into 5k-buying territory since it's better than trading in a 3k, but once you have the ability to get a 5k transport mining is now worthless to you.

Unless, of course, you have a large number of friends to help you out whenever you want.

Since I don't have any friends, I have "run screaming from mining" in favor of trading as my primary money-maker.

Which gives me a Thought: Add another larger generic mining ship. Make it about as maneuverable as the 5k transports, and bigger/more unwieldy than the Hegemon. Maybe not 5k hold, but above 4k.

That might make it worth it. As it is, notsomuch.
