Hi there,

A few players and I are looking at making a faction. There are five of us at the moment, but it looks like we might have a few others that can be involved as well.

We've been talking amongst ourselves about the kinds of allies/enemies we'd have, our goals as a faction, where we'd want to be stationed out of, etc.

There's a couple things we're interested in/curious about:

1) Faction ships. What are the restrictions on creating these? Can we request to import ships from other mods not available on Discovery and get those as our faction ships? Can we create our own ship, and submit it for approval?

2) Faction bases. What are the limits as to where our station/planet/etc. would fit? If we wanted a custom-looking space station... ... is that possible? If not, what are rules regarding setting that up?

3) What all do we need to know regarding creating our faction? AKA, what information do we need to provide, what do we need to decide on, what is the application process like, etc?

Thanks!

Well, if you were to create a faction, it would be best to first post the information under RP Factions, see the feedback, and continue from there. After you think you're ready, then go for officialness.

But back to your questions.

1) You would have to use ships that apply to your ID. That means Mollys can use Werewolfs, but not Templars. After awhile, and if you get lucky, then you could maybe get a special ship put in for your faction.

2) It is possible to have bases, but only after your faction is official, and you have bought a system. (Not sure if buying a system is needed or not, have to check.) And if you want a station, you will need 1 billion credits (?) to get them put in. I'm not sure if you can design them or not.

3) If you're an unofficial faction, just posting the backstory, reputation, allowed tech, ZOI, and a roster would be fine.

Basically, if you want to create faction, you should make it according to existing freelancer npc factions, bonus points if it actually follows and/or develops vanilla faction rp.

You can, of course, create some random group based on generic id, but something tells me that creating specific ids, bases and shiplines are long over.

Well Russ just about answered your questions so I'll just add on how to get started:

Make a post about your faction in one of the sections here. I don't know which exactly so maybe someone else can point you in the right direction as far as that goes.

This post needs to be fairly detailed and should at the very least include:

Factions Name, Faction Objectives (I.E. Protect <strike>'merica</strike> Liberty from terrorists, cause the downfall of all corporations, etc.) Zone of Influence (essentially where members of the faction are allowed to operate and where they aren't), your factions diplomacy, a backstory as to how you're faction came into being inRP, some kind of hierarchy (I.E. Ranks) but my warning there would be don't put in too many different ranks especially when you're just starting up, make sure you put up a roster of who's currently in your faction. Be sure to put their inRP name and their OORP forum account name, and tech that you're allowed to use. Check the tech charts for that. The ID your faction uses will ultimately determine what tech you can and cannot use but be careful to stay within the limits of that.

Other things you probably should have but aren't necessary:

A kickass logo. Every faction needs a cool logo eventually.

After you've made that post people will give you feedback on whether they think your faction is a good idea or not. If you get generally positive feedback then you're well on your way to being integrated into the Disco community.

Now it's all about patience. You'll have to make an active prescence both on the forums and in game if you want people to take you seriously.

Once you have a decent number of people in your faction (I think it's 8 not sure though) and people are starting to know who you are, and you have boatloads of money you can apply for official faction status. Official faction status gets you a lot of perks and stuff but also gives you a lot more responsibilities.

Officiality is also extremely expensive. I don't know a lot about the application process so I won't say anything about it.

Once you are official though you can really start doing things. As Russ mentioned you can buy systems for your faction (costs 1 billion credits though) and buy space stations and stuff (also extremely expensive.)

I think that just about covers everything you need to know about setting up a faction and nursing it all the way to officiality. Because I'm a nice guy I'll even give you an example of a good set up form. It should look something like this

No, I'm not biased. What are you talking about?

Anyway, hope that helped! And hope I'm not wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me if I am.

Cheers,
-Pyro
