what if we could set our own call signs that the NPC's would use to identify us with.
so for example a command like
/callsign BHG yellow 2-3
this would set your callsign when the NPC's communicate with you to "Bounty Hunters, Yellow, Two Dash Three"
"im engaging Bounty Hunters Yellow 2 dash 3"
etc...
of course there would be many different combinations, just as the NPC's have many different ones to use.
just something nice to think about really, not a necessity, and id like to see 86 as much as the next person, so its just a thought bubble im letting you in on.
Perhaps we could begin with callsigns determined by the ship's ID?
Generic IDs still keep the "Freelancer" that currently exists.
IDs for Vanilla factions already have the appropriate voice-recordings so that would be ok.
Unfortunately, there's nothing for non-vanilla factions, unless someone wants to do voice recordings.

There are NPC voice bits for ''Pirate'', ''Trader'', ''Police'' and ''Navy'', which could do the trick.
Actually, it is not silly. It is an improvement to the fun people can have. So, since there isn't much to do until .86 comes out, the devs might as well quickly do it.
