Can inventor export in .3ds, .obj or other common formats?

3dsMax is one of the more annoying programmes in that only it can read .3dsMax format files.
However it can also read pretty much all the other formats out there.

In relation to actual modding:
The typical route is modelling something in a modelling programme such as 3dsMax, Wings3D or Metaseq. The model is then exported in .obj format. Milkshape then imports that format, texturing or whatever can be done and it can be exported as a CMP to use ingame.

If I can remember, there is also an exporter for 3dsMax that's not entirely bug free but works well enough.

For your case, export from inventor in .obj format. Import into Milkshape. Export as CMP.
Job done.

look likes im going to have to learn how to use 3ds as this is what i have found
Inventor parts can be exported (besides the native .IPT format) to BMP, IGES (.igs), SAT, STEP (.stp), STL, XGL or ZGL formats, or to the Streamline .PTP format. Since R9, also 3D DWF is supported. Since R11 you can work with JT file format. With the Translator module for version 2008 you can save X_T and X_B files.
Inventor assemblies can be exported (besides the native .IAM format) to BMP, IGES, SAT, STEP, XGL or ZGL formats, or to the Streamline .AMP format. Since R9, also 3D DWF is supported. Since R11 you can work with JT file format.

Inventor drawings can be exported (besides the native .IDW format) to DWG or DXF formats, or to the Streamline .DWP format (and presentations to the .PNP format). Also the DWF publishing format is supported.

Using add-on applications you can additionally write Inventor data to the .IDF or VRML (.WRL - see "VRML Translator" by CAD Studio) formats, or to .JPG (jpeg) or .PDF.

no obj:(

DWG looks familiar.

I think Milkshape can import it, but I'm not sure.

You can get them legally if you're a student anyways.

So do I. Especially since I'm enrolled in the CCAF until I retire :3
