I've just met 6 new player in game and they all have good english and already read server rules many times (as they say) but suprisingly they all have mismatch between ID/IFF with their ship/equipment. One of them using Conference with Freelancer ID and get hired by a pirate with Sabre and Corsair IFF, you can see all Sirius on both of them. Another player using Chimaera with LN ID but no IFF, until now I'm still wonder from where he got that ID. So the point is they have read server rule, but they "forgot" to read Tech Chart, maybe put Tech Chart in more readable section will help this new player, that cross in my mind, so write your idea here and hopefully admin read this topic

Have you read rules yourself? There is a 6.10 and link to use of technology thread.

Noted.

It's really hard to put the tech chart in a more obvious place. It's pinned it the rules section and linked in the portal. I'm open to ideas.

Well, I'm not talking about my self, its about new player who have read server rule but they dont even know if Tech Chart exist and I think its unwise to write in rules violation report everytime we see player who has mismatch ID/IFF/Tech

I'm not particularly familiar with IPB, but is there possibly a way to have some bulletin text up at the top of the forum? Simple Machines forums used to be able to have a ticker-type announcement bar toward the top. Came in quite handy when we had announcements and whatnot. Two or three rotating slides with text and URLs to spread important information that wouldn't be otherwise apparent. Alternatively, we could turn it into a static link on the main board page within the listing for the Discovery RP 24/7 section, or even in the same style of the child boards within the Rules forum. Lord knows it's important enough to have its own space.

Then again, that'll only work if they come to the forums. Really, about the only other way to draw attention to there being a restriction on tech usage would be to include it in the welcome message for the server. Perhaps drop the font on the admin listing (or clean it up for those who haven't been active) and pull out the Angels message, since I personally don't feel it to be entirely necessary. My opinion, though.

[font=Comic Sans Ms]Retitle the tech chart's thread as "The Tech Chart" and have it's description be "Discovery Server Rules of Technology Use"

I don't remember if one of the rotating server messages is about the tech chart, but if not, maybe it should be? Up there with the rule about re-engaging after death.

The wiki needs to be updated; it is where all the nubs go for info, not here. In my opinion there should be direct links to the techchart on every gun, ship and ID. There should also be clarifications for common areas of confusion such as whether the Firefly is Bretonian Civ or Sirius Civ. The ID rules should be explicitly stated in a few of the more misused ships, such as Liberty GBs and Capital ships. Perhaps restricted weaponry should have links, either from the wiki itself or the techchart, leading to the request threads on the forums.

Also, the main discovery site needs new links to the wiki which has moved locations.

Maybe after May sometime, if anyone wants to get together to update the wiki? I'd be willing to chip in.
