I just got the same question within a very short time frame on my Angel. Seems they took a mission and when they got to the way point no NPCs spawned for them. Two separate players, different factions, etc etc.
Couldn't find anything on the forums about it, though I didn't do an extensive search as I had other questions to deal with.
Re log. I had all three people re log and it resolved itself for all three. However, just to put this out there.

Same problem here folks, no idea what could it be... but strange that it happens all in the same time for us... my shipname is LNS-Riverdane, my pal also suffers with the same problem LNS-Lucky.

Today I tried doing missions again, after restart I was able to do one, but when I took up a level one destroy contraband mission it all became buggy again, even after I did movechar or created entirely new char missions waypoints still made that triangle on the map or wayponts not even show at all...
