Am I the only one to notice that the first post in this thread dates back from February? Major gravedig. Imho, this has in all likeliness already been dealt with.

The future of those armor upgrades is one of the biggest balance issues we should discuss IMO...

This idea is as simple as great.
I LOVE it... use armor upgrades or faster thrusters. The choice is up to you. Be faster and get less hits or tougher and survive more.
But you should still have a thruster with an armor upgrade, otherwise you'd die way too fast. Maybe a slower (than it is now) one.
So we'd have:
Normal = Normal thrusting speed, normal armor
Armor = Slower, tougher
Speed = Faster, well... less amor? (or no change for armor?)
We could still use different classes. The highest armor upgrade would be the toughest, but also the one with the slowest thruster...

I really like the idea... *thinks* imagines flea with max speed upgrade.
But on a serious note it would provide more tactics in battle. Whether to go for the middle ground, speed or durability. It would add some strategy without complicating the game. In my opinion anyway
