Storytime...my sister had "Winter Formal" this weekend. Being the photobug I am I did the pictures of her and her bf. He wasn't too happy with me but whatever. The problems began when I tried to plug my Compact Flash card into my brother's computer to see what I had taken. The first few tries the window locked up. After that some of the pics came through but some were pure pixal rainbows. Not good but I put it down to him having crappy parts (he has a gateway, high quality all the way /sarcasm). So I get home and plug the card into my reader and the card is totally unreadable...crap.
I decided to put the card back into the camera and low and behold I can see all the pictures wonderfly...so I plug the camera into my computer and my computer says there are no pictures on the camera...crap crap crap and crap.
So...if you can help me get the pictures back I would be extreamly greatful.
It sounds like the FAT (File Allocation Table) on that card is corrupted. Basically the pictures are there but the FAT is at a point where nothing but the camera that wrote it can read it correctly. Yes, it is something that a company such as mine can handle, but it will typically cost $250USD. There are programs you can buy out there for $30-100 that can recover those photos by bypassing the FAT and going straight for the binary code of the photos themselves. One of theses programs should fix your problem for at least a good majority of those photos.
Most of them will let you download a trial version that will let you see the photos as they would be after a recovery is performed, but, you will have to buy them to actually access the photos. Hope that helps.

Hmm, might do as AC said, get the demo, and take screenshots of the display window. What model of camera is it? There might be a method of syncing it with a PC.

I would do a low level format of the card, take a whole bunch of worthless and meaningless photos and see what you get when trying to pull the photos off. If it works then it was a fluke. If they come up corrupt, try a new CF card and see if you get the same result, if so it is the camera and not the card, if not then toss that card.
