Yeah, I'd definitely say augmentations would be commonplace, even some pushing it as far as possible. I've actually got a character like that currently being evolved myself; physically a vegetable, does all he can to not be one pretty much.

In between Halo and Futurama I'd say Freelancer is.
Aside from the Yoda speak ...
In RP, we actually took the brain from George Graves (Athenian) when he died for the third time (first two he had body transplants - eventually alien tissue rejection got him) and stuck it in a jar, with appropriate biological fluids to keep him alive, if not sane (since he wasn't that sane to begin with), just in case Athenian ever decided to play again.
We already can do, albeit not perfected, liquid breathing. (No, it's not just a gimmick from the Abyss, it really does exist.) With effective AI technology, nanotechnology, plus additional memory availalbe, it actually should be possible to download your brain into a computer in Freelancer.

I think it's pretty much taken as read that mind-bending levels of technology exist.
I reckon: If you can travel faster than light; it's a pretty safe bet that your society is mad-deep in technology. Artificial intelligence knocking around the place implies that pretty much anything is possible with tech.
So yeah, with nano-tech you could get all deus-ex-y too:)and Like agmen says, you could probably put a whole mind in a machine; since machines can think.
When you look at peoples avvys and sigs, a lot feature something that alludes to some kind of artificial enhancement/replacement. Not to mention the bar NPCs with cybernetic eye-gear welded to their heads. So I think it's something that is generally agreed on, but not often centered on. That said: the VR and outcasts have a story that features affecting cybernetics.
anyway, buy smart, buy Cryer;)
SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION ALERT
I wrote this story about someone uncivering a failed LN experiment to create the ultimate transhuman. I won't spoil much of it for you, but the protagonist ends up becoming an even more ultimate transhuman.
