I just lolled. Clearly you people have never been to South Africa. You say your prayers before you get into that car. In this country there is no such thing as a emergency lane and the Minibuses are more dangerous than loaded guns.
You can be on the left side of the road, ready to turn left and the idiot in front of you will turn RIGHT across the intersection in front of everybody. Mind, that was a cop car too. Even they do it. When you're here you do everything in your power to stay away from those things since almost every accident we hear about involves one of them....
Don't get me started on their attitude towards REAL buses. I can't remember how many bus drivers have been shot for taking away those Minibuses fares. I don't mean to be racist here but just make a quick mental note that white people do not drive these minibuses, at least not in this country and especially if you want to live longer than a few K's.
Seriously, I wish we had **** like your incidents here. It would be a change for the better XD.
Some say that he is allergic to a fungus found only between the toes of Corsairs,
and that he is oblivious to 98% of Liberty Law. All we know is... He's called the Busdriver!
' Wrote:Only people who drive manual transmission cars usually know how to. Driver's Ed classes don't generally teach manual transmission. They learn manual because they have to (or have the money to get nice sports cars).
Here in norway its just normal to learn manual during Drivers Ed.... but if you take a class only for Automatic, you can be fined/imprisoned for driving with a manual transmission.... So yeah... Manual FTW...

Me sir? No... I was just reading the thread, mystified at what this fabled 'automatic transmission' thing is...
I drive an old Volvo 850 estate. Largely because it's the only thing I could afford which I could throw a PA rig and a drumkit into the back of, without worrying too much about how it'll all fit. It has manual transmission like pretty much everything over here.
I've driven an automatic once, and found myself feeling like I lacked control. Honestly, it kinda scared me a bit.

Pardon my possible sexism here, but over three quarters of my near incidents were with women drivers. They always give me the finger too, wait wrong innuendo...
[color=#FFFFFF]The scariest time of my life, my first British roundabout 2 years ago... Seeing the cars turning the other way was just... Now that I'm used to it, I like driving here even more than back home mainly because drivers in the UK drive with less ass and more sense

Hey, I know exactly what you're talking about. Blue light brigades being our absolute favourite, pushing you off the road as they scream down the highway to some or other political buffet paid for by the tax payers so they can live the high life. Don't get me started on our oh-so lovable taxis. They called Hi-ace for a reason! "High Impact African Culling Equipment." That may sound cruel but if you live here you would understand perfectly. They are death traps!
However, I live in the Cape, things are far better here. At least we have some breathing room from the ANC, even if it's just a small bit! Oh, and we don't have toll roads being installed, yet!
Oh and now the taxis 'industry', as they like to call themselves, has branched off into the skies. God help us all!
Can't wait for the taxis wars in the sky as they fight with SAA for market share! If you don't know, taxis don't fight competition by lowering their prices or offering a better service, haha no! They just shoot the competition till there's no one left!

Roundabouts are fine. Although a while ago, I had slowed to a stop before moving onto a roundabout, to (politely) avoid cutting up an articulated lorry, which I thought was a pretty sensible idea, when someone drove into the back of my car at about 30 mph.
About six months later I had someone else drive into the back of my car while I was waiting at a red light (at a freakin' railway crossing as well).
In terms of near misses, I can't say I've noticed much difference between male and female drivers. I'd guess that either you are on the slightly unusual side of the probability fence, or there have been more near misses and finger-waving than you've noticed or remembered... There's really not much difference between male and female driving.
