There are many ways of frying those components.
1. A bad quality PSU. When it dies, it fries all or most of the hardware. It is the most common PC death cause here.
2. The Heatsink of the processor detaches of the socket because of socket clamp damage. The processor gets really hot, Arround 400 C and fries the motherboard. But that does not happens with the actual CPU's like A64, P4 or PD. Athlon XP had no thermal protection, so if the heatsink detaches, the processor fries.

4/4MB Speed!??!?! Cool. We have that at my work, its hell of fast. and expensive. Arround 900 U$S a month. But hell, the servers need all that bandwidth...
BTW, do you know what the model of that ASrock motherboard was? I had an ASrock motherboard on my PC arround a year ago, and it died too. Northbridge fried.
I would like to know if you had the same model. For reference mine was K7VT6. I will never buy one of those again...
