Agreed. (Well perhaps a bit different, some substances arent as explosive as others)

Explosive gas, I has it!

On to more sensible topics, I don't think the engine would allow us to differentiate between freighters and fighters. The game thinks they are all ships and does what it has been programmed to do. I think that maybe changing the densities of the fields could have a good effect, maybe in the next beta?

Different regions have different advantages for different ships.
Take this fight to a asteroid field and suddenly the tables are turned on a transport.

I don't see a problem to have these gas clouds do what they do. They allow Freieghters to escape from pilots.

I have to go with pipsqueak on this. A transport/GB/cruiser pilot has little chance in an asteroid field. You may ask why I don't include dessies and dreaddies, but it's kinda obvious: Who in their right mind would take one in there?

I love the gas fields as they are, my ships can survive, except my Patriot, but he stays in NY.

First, a dessie is better in an asteroid field than a cruiser.. MUCH better.. Also Boss, the Sigma-13 gas fields aren't quite that 'harmless.'

Second, increasing damage in any form, to both shield and hull or just shield.. It will utterly rape fighters, and these fields aren't supposed to be 'lets give traders a free pass zone'. Once a fighter's shields are down, 2-4 gas pocket explosions will strip ALL weapons except a Supernova, Nova, and Nuclear mine. Increasing density of them will only compound the issue. They explode if you get within 100m of them, and there is a pocket every 200 meters already. Any more and entering would be even worse than if they were increased in damage.

On this situation, Templar is completely right. Sigma-13 gas fields are way too powerful to a fighter and you cannot adequately dodge them and fight at the same time. The S-13 fields need to have their damage halved. Thats right, DECREASED. They are too powerful. While the Tau-23 ones and lava field pockets need a serious increase to damage. The ones in Sigma-13 should equal the ones in Tau-23 and Omega-3.

The problem with mines and gas clouds isn't the environment, it's the shields. People say they're necessary to keep repair costs down, but they do that by removing virtually all non-player threats from the game.
