Quote:How about disposing of the generic tags completely?
You mean generic ID's? Yeah, why not.

Let me post my version of the story. I go to Colorado to fly around, see if I can find some trouble cause quite frankly that's what BHG do. I find you at Pueblo, I have no time to even scan you properly and I don't engage since I would have nothing to gain, I just enter another TL. Until I faced you the second time at the NY gate, I was assuming you were either a lost Order pilot or a Corsair with his rep screwed up. Basically I treated you like a pirate, I don't see how there are any gripes there. Notice how I did not spout rules into system chat or complain about your RP contrary to what you say, everything I said was in RP banter. If I would be complaining about anything I would clearly sign it as OORP chatter. I simply inquired as to what would an Order ship be doing in Colorado because it is in fact unusual to see a ship flying an Order IFF in Colorado. How is there a problem?

Barring the Lane_Security spouting rules as he went and that Blade BHG battlecruiser (which is notorious for shooting pirates with no bounties involved btw, god knows who invited him over there) I don't see how you could find this experience even remotely offensive. Honestly? I found it rather enjoyable with you RPing accordingly. If I or anyone else thought you had openly broken any rules, I do figure there would be a sanction report sitting on the report forum right now, amirite?

' Wrote:Yes, i've encountered this problem aswell. If your in a Zoner ship your automatically branded a ZONER, if your in a corsair ship your automatically branded a corsair. Most don't even bother to think about your rp, they see a ship or a tag and assume thats what you are. Then they want to go off about how your in the wrong ship, the wrong place, or not rp'ing when they have only met you in space maybe ONCE. Then instead of trying to understand your RP they just spout off about how you need to do this or that or leave the system or be destroyed.

For instance, on the info of a "corsair" cruiser it says that corsairs would sometimes offer it to wealthy freelancers. Now, i have a couple problems with this. 1. How can a wealthy "Freelancer" have this cruiser when the freelancer id does not allow cruiser class ships. and 2. the entire servers population would assume you were a corsair or "unlawfull" JUST because of the ship, and understandably, it IS and "unlawfull" ship.

As i said, there are many different cases where things like this happen, and instead of trying to understand or even discuss it intelligently, most people would rather tell you what "they" think you should do, or risk being depressurized by them and or thier buddies.

2 points First I think you are refering to the Huntress Cruiser, which was never really a "Corsair" cruiser, just used until we had one of our own. Second. The tag id issue is one that comes about when you are missing one of two things, a) faction specific ID or b) tag, or when these a and b dint match. You are flying a generic pirate ID, with a Order tag and a corsair ship. So 2 of the 3 could fit corsair, so thats what people see you as. The order are not pirates, so you are actually violating the rules flying your ship this way.

Quote:

6.2 Out of Roleplay (OORP):
In-game tag seen before the name must match the ID as closely as possible. It is not allowed to have the tag not match ID category. For example, it is prohibited to have 'Police' tag and 'Pirate' ID.

Equipment used must match tag and ID as closely as possible. For example, it is not allowed for Corsairs to use Outcast ships and guns.

The Order is a military faction and you are using a Pirate id. this is a no no. The funny thing is if you changed your ID to Order you would be perfectly in RP for an Order char, except the pirating and weapons and such.

Last point, if you make it hard for people to see what character you are playing (ie generic ID's, non-matching tags/ships) Dont be upset when people dont know what character you are playing.

A good point!

I still think that the generic id's are more trouble that they're worth. Or maybe people like me can't be trusted with them.

Bearing this in mind, I think i'll get rid of mine.

And apologies Blodo. No rule threat although you did congratulate me sarcastically on my RP; it was the other ship that started threatening me with reports. All i did was show him the business end of my battle razor...

My apologies, the one yelling about cruiser was the one that came late..
He didn't even had a chance to see you or even scan you..

Besides I think Pirate ID is nonsense.. Independent pirate would be soon
crushed by the concurence of pirate factions..

That's another thing that causes confusion. If Pirate id is effectively an independent pirate who has opted out of a pirate faction, why would any courtesy be extended ?- i.e. docking rights, etc. Independent pirates would be doing a pirating faction out of business.

Which means a Pirate id character can't really dock anywhere, apart from the freeports.... or can they?

Well that depends. They can dock on Junker bases for sure because Junkers accept everyone as well, and they should be able to dock on Liberty Rogue bases because, all in all, if you are a pirate in Liberty with a generic ID I would think you would be considered as a rogue. Unless I am missing the idea and the Rogues are some organised crime family, but I always thought of them as a motley group of criminals without any significant chain of command. Am I straying here?

That's a tricky one. I mean, if i was organising a criminal group (dreamy look on face) i'd at least demand points on whatever revenue anyone using my facilities would make thru crime. Perhaps a docking fee. But then a faction would have to have someone playing all the time operating a toll booth. Volunteers anyone?

Part of my original question was , if i am in corsair ship and carry a pirate id, is there anything stopping me from working in, e.g., liberty space. If not, then why not just be a corsair?

I think it all boils down to the faction you are identifiying yourself with and how friendly it would be to Corsairs. Because if you have an Outcast tag, there would be no way to acquire a Corsair ship but apparently they wouldn't sell it to an independent pirate as well - only friendlies and allies. Liberty is a problem in that there is literally nobody there that would be friendly or even neutral to them. Everyone is hostile to Corsairs in Liberty, so people scream OORP there the hardest.

It all boils down to the means of obtaining that ship I suppose. Though I figure if there was some established RP story about how your character got a Corsair vessel, it would pass through without too much of a problem. You would still get the screams from some people, but you wouldn't be reported for it, that is if you want to deal with the stupidity.

Quote:The problem was that you were in Colorado in a Corsair ship, really.

No Corsairs in Colorado.
No, Athenian. What Blunt means is that Colorado is WAY out of the Corsair's Zone of Influence.

They have no allies in Colorado, and are largely uninterested in the area.

Post a ships log and back story. A story to explain things helps loads by, giveing people who might get hot and bothered a place to reference and maybe understand. At least they will know you thought longer than "It looks cool I'll buy it!" or "This ship owns!! I'll buy it!!".

I had a smiilar problem with an IMG gunboat when I first started and found that a captains log with a back story solves alot of problems.

Try it.;)
