I was inspired today to draw this, realizing now it looks a bit too Fafnir-y.
I was thinking that the current Red Hessian ships really do not fit the current Rheinland aesthetics... instead of being big, blocky, and clunky looking they are oddly curvy and graceful. So I started thinking. Hessians are good engineers, they seem to be pretty practical, but I do not know where the lines come from in their looks. So what we have here is something based slightly on the Wraith's frame, with an extra energy reactor to give it more speed and maneuverability. The windshield of the ship is also armored with metalic blinds, in addition big metal plates are covering the top and sides of the cockpit to provide along with the upper spine and sides of the ship, allowing more protection from asteroid impacts and lava field rocks... also you cannot rely on visual contact all the time in the Walker nebula. This ship is designed to crash right into an asteroid and act like nothing happened.
This can either be something like a normal VHF, basically the Odin, or maybe something more in line with the Werewolf, a very heavy fighter with a freighter shield and a crazy powerplant... mostly used for killing transports and gunships. It will likely have a dark, faded green/brown texture like the new Hessian Battleship
So here is my experiment in trying to pull Red Hessian ships in line with the normal Rheinland look.
Feedback would be appreciated.
Seeing as SHF's are the worst ship class in the game, it's unlikely that the Hessians will want one. Maybe make this into a VHF and the Odin can be shrunk to be a HF?
Yes, this does look a lot more like the Rheinland military shipline than the current Hessian shipline. However, I enjoy the current Hessian ship line because it is diffrent than the Rheinlandic shipline. As such, I would suggest redoing a sketch that removes the ships emblem, see if you can get it modeled, then see who wants it.
As far as the design goes, my advice would be to keep the gas scoops and the cockpit armor. They really look neat, at least in the sketch (not sure how that canopy will translate into the model.) Most of all, keep the strait lines. I like ships with strait lines. This ship looks hard and mettallic, with solid armor. I would advise that you attempt to keep that asthetic no matter what changes you make to the design.
Well I put SHF up there because I wasn't sure how well an Odin replacement would go over.
Eh well I do appreciate the Hessian look of things right now but to me they feel...out of place. I mean put a Loki next to a Phantom or a Heimdall next to a RMGB... anyways the emblem can be removed or just excluded, it is not much really, I mean it would probably just be a texture detail rather than embedded in the model.
I will try a few more designs tomorrow, messing around with the engines and wings maybe. But I am glad you like how it is looking so far, you seem to like the elements that I was rather fond of myself here (angles, armor plates, etc)
SHFs are nice. I would like to see someone attempt to model this, though probably with hessian reactor design so that it doesn't look too similar to fafnir. A Rheinland inspired hull with "Hessian additions" to it would make it follow the kitbash overcharge scheme.
