From what I can gather. The thing your talking about most likely is illegal. Cause it can be mis used. It also destroys RP in a way. Since all smugglers would be screwed no matter where they go.
Pirates would be able to get traders way easier.
And so on. So I dont think anyone should use it.

EDITED: RULE: Anything that is not part of the Discovery Mod. Is considered Illegal.(Says something along those lines on the pop up rules in game)

Correct Stew,

But isn't he talking about the FLHook commands?

Not talking of using commands, mods, or doing _anything_ to the game. Just using a webpage that is published by the server admin, and compile the data available there. If it is illegal, my original statement stands - the page should be taken down.

I would have to say No to such a "tool"

First off, if it were available, the potention for some one decently good at coding stuff could abuse its potential,;ie have it able to keep track of anyone anywhere anytime. That compleatly eliminates the need for things like Scanners, being in Groups, or even good old fashion leg work to hunt down your query.

Second, it could end up being used to seriously off balance the game in terms of who does what trading where and how often if all you do is use the tool to track such things. Some traders rely on steath to avoid pirates, others in convoys. After all I'd seen three Advance Trains blow away a Bomber who thought he was slick. A tool like that would mean traders are no longer able to hide from a pirate, he'd know where to go to find them.

But thats just my opinion on the idea. The Mod creator and Admins really should be the ones to look into this and have the final say.

Can't say yes or no really, be like us saying we would ban people caught using datastorm ... Not going to
happen, its a personal choice.
Comes down to why would you want to do it in the first place, if all its going to do is destroy a part of the
roleplay ? I think we have enough toys to work with already, and there is a certain element here who would
just use it for their own selfish benefit.
... Mmm, hes flying a Gunboat, I'd better take a cruiser ...

Thats what I would be afraid of. It could be used for RP purposes, but could equaly be used for your advantage.

We all have ego's and we al like to win and as such, the power to know too much information about your target would corrupt us a tad perhaps.

What you say is certainly possible - but then again, it is with the 'players online' page, which is why I stated that it should be taken down if external tools are illegal.

What I was intending to provid (for a fee) if it is legal, is a way for those who could be expected to have access to that information to have it.

For example, the house police and military could get access to who is in their systems, who has passed, and from which border system they arrived/to which they left, as well as all officers regardless of location. I think that would be both appropriate and useful.

(Hm. Lane hackers/Lane security - Should they have access to all traffic in systems with lanes?)

I would not make public a tool that could be used to map movements in the edge worlds and other places where survilleance would not exist.
EDIT: or make it available to factions that would not have access to said survilleance
